The Best Star Wars Project Gets Awful Delay
Andor will return for Season 2, but it will be much later than expected. According to a recent Disney+ press release, the only Star Wars shows set to premiere on the platform in 2024 are Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte. Absent from the lineup was Andor‘s second outing, which showrunner Tony Gilroy had initially tapped for a summer 2024 release.
Andor Sesason 2 Won’t Release In 2024
The delay is attributed to disruptions in the show’s production caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood. A teaser trailer for Andor Season 2, released at Star Wars Celebration Europe in early 2023, gave fans a glimpse of the title character fully embracing the Rebellion, bringing the series closer to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Season 1 A Huge Success
Andor Season 1 was a massive hit, earning widespread acclaim from critics and fans and securing impressive ratings of 96 and 86 percent, respectively, on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The show also received accolades for its gritty, character-focused storytelling, marking a departure from the traditional Jedi-Sith narrative and delving into the darker and more serious aspects of the Galactic Civil War.
What To Expect In Season 2
Andor Season 2 will consist of 12 episodes, with Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios taking on directing duties. Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, and Beau Willimon return as writers for the season, joined by Tom Bissell. Diego Luna, Stellen Skarsgaard, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kyle Soller, and other cast members from the initial season have been officially confirmed to reprise their roles.
The Acolyte
Despite the Andor Season 2 delay, there will be plenty of Star Wars content in 2024. The Acolyte is set at the conclusion of the High Republic era, marking it as the furthest point the franchise has ventured into live-action storytelling in the past. Creator Leslye Headland says the series aims to evoke the prime Jedi era, akin to the exploration seen in the prequels.
Skeleton Crew
Meanwhile, Skeleton Crew will seamlessly integrate with The Mandalorian-era shows, establishing connections with the Jon Favreau-helmed series, as well as The Book of Boba Fett and the recent Ahsoka installment. The animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch is also slated for release in 2024, along with Tales of the Jedi Season 2.
Andor Is A Prequel Story
Star Wars: Andor (including Season 2) serves as a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The series delves into the early days of the Rebellion against the Galactic Empire, providing a closer look at Cassian Andor and the events that led to the theft of the Death Star plans, a critical mission depicted in Rogue One.
