The Boys: Mexico Spinoff With Huge Star Wars Actor Attached
Over three (and soon to be four) seasons, Prime Video’s The Boys has landed a spin-off – in Mexico. Titled The Boys: Mexico, Deadline reveals that the production will possibly feature performances from Diego Luna (Andor) and Gael García Bernal (Bad Education) who are currently attached as executive producers.
But, don’t get your hopes up too high as both actors wouldn’t be appearing in major roles should they sign on for the series.
The Boys: Mexico Coming Soon
The Boys: Mexico is coming to fans from none other than Eric Kripke, the flagship show’s creator who has seen massive success in the comic-turned-television-series universe.
Coming along for the ride to bring a new super story to Prime Video is Kripke’s production company, Kripke Enterprises, along with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures, Neil H. Moritz’s Original Film, Amazon MGM Studios, and Sony Pictures Television.
No Plot Details
As of right now, no plot details surrounding The Boys: Mexico have been revealed but from what we know of the original series and its other live-action spin-off, Gen V, audiences are in for a world of blood, guts, and satire.
We do know that the production will be penned, executive produced, and formed under the watchful eye of Blue Beetle scribe, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The series is currently on the hunt for a co-showrunner to join Dunnet-Alcocer.
Series A Fan-Favorite
The announcement for The Boys: Mexico is yet another major win for Kripke and the rest of his team as well as those at the top of Prime Video as hype around the series has only continued to grow since its first season.
Pulled from the pages of the comic book created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the original show follows a group of citizen vigilantes who go by the name The Boys on a mission to bring down the corrupt superheroes working for Vought International.
The series has made itself a favorite for its devil-may-care attitude filled with shocking moments and buckets upon buckets of blood.
Casting News
While, as we mentioned, no cast has been revealed for The Boys: Mexico, the original series is filled to the brim with top-notch talent. And obviously, if Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal were added we’d be really cooking.
Included in the original lineup are Karl Urban (Thor: Ragnarok), Jack Quaid (Scream), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Antony Starr (Cobweb), Erin Moriarty (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), and more.
Other The Boys Productions
And, as fans will know, The Boys: Mexico is far from the show’s first spin-off as it’s previously received off-shoots of both the animated and live-action variety.
First came The Boys Presents: Diabolical, an animated anthology series that featured side stories separate from the show’s main plot.
Then came the recently wrapped first season of Gen V, an off-shoot that followed the lives of up-and-coming Supes studying at the world-renowned Godolkin University.
The Boys Gen V
The show celebrated a very successful premiere season with Prime Video quickly greenlighting a follow-up installment.
While Gen V featured some cameos from The Boys including Jensen Ackles and Chace Crawford, it was mostly a standalone series that introduced a brand new set of characters to the fold. While we can’t say for sure, it would be likely that the creative team behind The Boys: Mexico will follow suit with Gen V.
Stay tuned for more information about not only The Boys: Mexico but also Season 4 of The Boys and Season 2 of Gen V.
