Dave Filoni Takes Over All Star Wars Creative Control
Star Wars has announced a new Chief Creative Officer, and the title has gone to Dave Filoni, reports Variety. Filoni, who has worked closely with George Lucas since he helmed Clone Wars in 2008, will not only be taking on the new role of chief creative officer.
He will also continue to hold the title of executive vice president, a position he has held since 2020.
Dave Filoni’s New Role
This new title will allow Filoni to have a more involved role in the development of future Star Wars properties, and he’ll be responsible for weighing in on a narrative level.
Given Dave Filoni’s experience from executive producing all of the Star Wars shows that are streaming on Disney+, he’s the right guy for the job, and ready to help Star Wars writers tell the best stories they can possibly tell.
All Phases Of Star Wars Projects
Moving forward, Filoni will be more finely tuned into the early development phases of projects. That is rather than being brought on board after a property has already been fleshed out and substantially developed by various showrunners, writers, and producers.
With so many Star Wars series and movies presently in the works, having a central figure like Dave Filoni overseeing the creative process will be beneficial because he can steer a multitude of projects in the right direction.
Like The Jedi Council
But Filoni has stated that he’s not going to rule with an iron fist and tell people what to do. He believes that his function will be analogous to that of a member of a Jedi Council who offers a guiding hand.
This all while also offering perspective on the challenges that certain aspects that the franchise’s lore will present as more stories are conceived, written, and developed.
Star Wars Dominating
Not only is Star Wars dominating streaming with a multitude of critically acclaimed series, but there are plans to make a triumphant return to the big screen with future cinematic installments.
At the present time, there are several movies in the works by James Mangold, Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, all of which will greatly benefit from Dave Filoni’s input and overarching creative vision.
Skeleton Crew Coming
What’s more, a new Star Wars series, entitled Skeleton Crew, was created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, is coming. The upcoming series will consist of eight episodes and is slated for a December 2023 release on Disney+.
In addition to Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, which will take place at the end of the High Republic era before the events in the main Star Wars films, will see a 2024 release. Dave Filoni is also exploring a possible second season of Ahsoka, which saw its stunning first-season conclusion this past October.
Familiar With The Franchise
With the upcoming Star Wars release slate, it’s exciting to know that somebody like Dave Filoni, who is more than familiar with the franchise and its multiple offshoots, is going to be more heavily involved in the creative process.
It’s no mystery by now that Star Wars needs guidance on the cinematic front, and when you consider Filoni’s input and track record, it’s clear that he most certainly has his finger on the pulse when it comes to all things Star Wars-related.
It’s safe to say that with Dave Filoni on board as chief creative officer, Star Wars has a very bright future on all fronts.
