Tom Hardy Reveals Venom 3 Back In Production With Set Photo
Tom Hardy has confirmed that Venom 3 is back in production, and he has posted a picture of himself alongside writer and director Kelly Marcel on his Instagram page. Production for the symbiotic sequel originally kicked off on June 26, 2023, but was halted shortly thereafter due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which ended last week. And by the looks of it, the cast and crew are ready to hit the ground running, and start filming the highly-anticipated Let There Be Carnage sequel in London.
Tom Hardy Is Filming Venom 3 In London
Tom Hardy appears to be having the time of his life on the Venom 3 set as he smiles at the camera while nursing the can of Amstel that he’s holding firmly in his left hand. Kelly Marcel, on the other hand, looks like she’s nursing a tension headache, but can you blame her? If you’re up on your lore, then you know all too well that Eddie Brock and Venom are constantly at odds with each other, which requires Hardy to be extra animated as both his characters’ personalities clash on-set.
What’s In Store For Venom 3
Though not much is known about the plot line for Venom 3, a multiverse plot was alluded to during the preceding film’s mid-credit scene. In addition to Tom Hardy reprising his role as the titular character, Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor have been cast in undisclosed roles. But until more on-set photos and press pieces involving the upcoming sequel make their rounds, we’re left in the dark at the time of this writing.
If we had to go out on a limb, however, we have reason to believe that Venom 3 will be getting into MCU territory after Tom Hardy’s brief appearance in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. If you need a refresher, Tom Hardy’s cameo ended with Venom getting teleported away from the MCU, but a small piece of symbiote material was left behind, which is an ominous example of foreshadowing if we’ve ever seen one.
Kelly Marcel Returns To Direct Venom 3
Not only is Kelly Marcel helming the project after working on the first two Venom films as a writer and producer, she worked on the Venom 3 screenplay alongside Tom Hardy. So if you’re worried about continuity, it’s safe to say that the story will pick up right where Let There Be Carnage left off while taking us into completely new territory. We can’t think of a better writing team than Marcel and Hardy, the latter being more than qualified to know what goes on inside the minds of both Eddie Brock and Venom.
Sony’s Growing Spider-Verse
Venom 3 will be the sixth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, though it remains to be seen whether there will be subsequent Venom sequels down the road. Tom Hardy has hinted that continuing the film series will likely hinge on the box office numbers, but is also willing to accept that if the continuity doesn’t call for a fourth film, then it may be time to move on to something else.
When Does Venom 3 Release?
We’ll just have to wait and see where the storytelling goes, and how well the film performs financially upon its November 8, 2024 release. If we’re lucky, Venom 3 will be left open-ended, and perform strongly enough to keep the symbiote slithering for years to come.
