The RoboCop Oreo Video From New Documentary Had Us Laughing Uncontrollably
Who would have thought that RoboCop was such a fan of Oreos? In the recent four-part SCREAMBOX Original Series RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop documentary, fans are given a deep look into the iconic Paul Verhoeven classic, along with the hilarious story of Peter Weller and weapons master Randy E. Moore tiffing over some of Nabisco’s famous sandwich cookies. Hilariously, both parties also have very different takes on the event.
In the documentary, we find out that RoboCop Randy E. Moore was carrying some Oreos while filming at the steel mill location and that he approached Peter Weller to hand him his weapon. However, Weller didn’t take the pistol and instead said, “Robo wants an Oreo,” to which Randy responded, “It’s just you and I, Peter,” adding, “Robo doesn’t get an Oreo. If PETER wants an Oreo, Peter can have an Oreo.’”
This didn’t make RoboCop himself very happy, as Weller headed to the edge of the railing they were standing on and loudly proclaimed, “Robo wants an Oreo!” to the production bystanders below. Moore then defiantly stuffed the entire stack of Oreos in his mouth, and when questioned over the radio if he had any of the cookies, Moore replied, “not anymore.”
Hilariously, Peter Weller has a very different take on this supposed RoboCop on-set incident. When interviewed in the documentary about how he remembers it, he simply replied, “I haven’t got a damn clue about Randy Moore and his fu**in’ Oreos.” Which means someone doesn’t remember things right, or Weller has no recollection of the event in question.
The RoboCop documentary is full of anecdotes and charming exchanges like the Oreos event, and it’s a must-watch for fans of the classic film. If you’re interested in checking out RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop, you can stream all four episodes on the SCREAMBOX platform. You can also get your own tangible copy of the series on Blu-ray.
Of course, if you somehow have missed out on Paul Verhoeven’s classic sci-fi after all these years, you owe it to yourself to check out the 1987 classic. Starring an ensemble cast that includes Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Daniel O’Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith, and Miguel Ferrer, RoboCop follows police officer Alex Murphy, who takes on crime and contends with his remaining humanity after being murdered and subsequently revived as a cyborg by a megacorporation. Also, if you need a snack while you watch the movie, Oreos are apparently a lore-accurate favorite of the titular cyborg.
RoboCop ended up getting multiple sequels, though none of them ended up coming even close to the original in terms of iconic status and popularity. The first film was also rebooted in 2014, though it received negative reviews despite being a financial success. It seems unlikely that any follow-ups would live up to the specific 1980s-era vibe and satire of the original, so you’re better off just watching the 1987 classic and then following it up with RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop for some interesting behind-the-scenes stories like the Oreo issue.
