Daredevil: Born Again Starting From Scratch? Directors Say Series Is At Day Zero
Daredevil has gone from the Man Without Fear to the Man Without A Disney Plus Series. New comments from the directors of the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series point to the show being nowhere near ready to start filming, let alone release. This comes on the heels of a major creative overhaul last month that saw Born Again 86 its head writers in favor of a fresh voice.
Daredevil: Born Again Is Starting All Over
According to Yahoo! Entertainment, new Daredevil directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead say they’re pretty much starting from scratch with the new series. “It is day zero,” Moorhead explained when asked where he and Benson stood in terms of Daredevil: Born Again. “We’re currently just consuming Daredevil content, not just the Netflix show but all the possible material.”
“All the possible material” includes the footage shot for Daredevil before the SAG-AFTRA strike made production grind to a standstill. It’s reported that nearly half of the 18-episode order for Daredevil: Born Again was completed in production before the strike and the above-mentioned “creative overhaul.” Now Benson and Moorehead have the unenviable task of picking up where the old crew left off and salvaging what they can of the already in-production episodes.
New Directors Worked On Moon Knight And Loki Season 2
The duo worked primarily in the horror genre prior to their first MCU gig, last year’s Moon Knight starring Oscar Isaac. Marvel clearly liked what the directors brought to the table because they were given the recently wrapped Loki Season 2 as their second project—a job that, by most accounts, the pair knocked out of the park.
Could Benson and Moorhead be Marvel’s small-screen version of the Russo Brothers? It certainly looks like it.
Daredevil Will Next Appear In The Echo Series
Meanwhile, Daredevil fans who are foaming at the mouth for more Matt Murdock action are in luck. Everyone’s favorite blind lawyer/ninja vigilante is scheduled to appear in the upcoming Echo series on Disney+. Echo, which premieres on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2024, will be Daredevil’s third appearance in the MCU after a brief stint in last year’s She-Hulk and a blink-and-youll-miss-it cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
Daredevil Might Lock Horns With Kingpin Before Born Again
Of course, it’s not just Daredevil that Marvel fans want to see but Daredevil squaring off against the Kingpin, something they might get sooner rather than later. Not only is Vincent D’Onofrio set to reprise his role as Wilson Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again but judging by the trailer, he’s also going to be playing a major role in Echo. With Charlie Cox also set to appear in Echo there’s a good chance Old Hornhead and the Kingpin of crime will be duking it out at some point during Echo‘s first season.
2015’s Daredevil Series Is Streaming On Disney+
In the meantime, Daredevil diehards can always stream the 2015 Daredevil series on Disney+. While the series isn’t canon to the MCU, it’s still an excellent watch and with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’onofrio both playing their respective characters again it’s a great chance to see them in action before Daredevil: Born Again.
Just, whatever you do, stay away from the 2003 Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck. Trust us, even the most hardcore Daredevil fan isn’t that desperate.
