Elvis Presley Groomed His Wife? Priscilla Presley Responds To Allegations
As audiences await Sofia Coppola’s next project, Priscilla, a deep-dive into the life of Priscilla Presley, many have heard about the dark light that it shines on Priscilla’s late husband and rock n’ roll legend, Elvis Presley. Although the filmmaker took much of her story directly from Priscilla Presley’s memoir, Elvis and Me, the woman behind the musician is speaking out against the film’s depiction of her late ex-husband, specifically the parts that allude to his grooming of her.
Priscilla Presley Speaks Out Against Elvis’ Portrayal In The Upcoming Film, Priscilla
Coppola left no stone unturned in her film, which stars Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley, giving audiences a full background on the pair’s relationship. This includes the age difference between the two with Elvis being 24 years old at the time he began courting the 14-year-old Priscilla. In an interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, Priscilla stood by the early days of her relationship with Elvis, saying that it was a “different time” in those days.
Priscilla Doesn’t Feel That Elvis Presley Groomed Her
During her interview, Priscilla Presley said that while she considered Elvis Presley to be “very unique,” she never saw his romantic advances as “grooming” – a word that she doesn’t think was even around at the time. She went on to explain that although they were in love, she never felt pressured to do anything sexual in their relationship, revealing in her memoir that the couple waited until they were married to become intimate.
She Feels That His Actions Were Normal Considering The Time Period
As for the film, the grooming aspect is just the beginning of how Coppola will pull the curtain back on the pair’s romance. She’ll also attempt to show Elvis Presley’s more controlling side in the ways that he would pick out Priscilla’s outfits, dress her how he saw fit, and even have her show off her looks to his friends. On this, Priscilla again said that it was a normal thing of the time and that because she “didn’t have any money,” she was more than appreciative of her beau spending the cash on her latest dress.
Priscilla Will Tell A Much Different Tale About The King Than The Recent Austin Butler Film
Although Baz Luhrmann recently came out with his own Elvis Presley biopic in the Austin Butler and Tom Hanks-led 2022 flick, Elvis, Sofia Coppola’s film will completely turn the tables on the man behind such hits as “Jailhouse Rock” and “Hound Dog.”
In her story, she depicts the singer as a bad influence on Priscilla after meeting her while he was stationed in Germany during World War II. Though they struck up a relationship that even Priscilla’s parents approved of, the director will give a modern-day light to the story, which will likely come off as disturbing to many.
Priscilla Is Playing In Theaters Now
Despite waiting until marriage to have sex, the film will also tell a darker side to Elvis Presley’s obsession with “pureness” and virginity, something that perhaps drew him to a younger partner like Priscilla.
Because so much of the story is taken from Priscilla’s own words, it will be hard for her to debunk any negative outpour that may stick to her late ex-husband’s name after the film hits theaters. Audiences can see the good, the bad, and the ugly of the world of the Presleys and make a decision on Elvis’ character for themselves today as Priscilla is now in theaters.
