Beloved ’90s Sitcom Star Pleads Guilty In Domestic Violence Case And This Isn’t The First Time
If you’ve watched the 90’s sitcom Home Improvement, then you know how Zachery Ty Bryan got his start. The actor spent eight seasons on the family-focused comedy show alongside stars Tim Allen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas and has somehow ended up the subject of a USA Today news article for domestic violence charges.
Zachary Ty Bryan, on the outside, has lived an idyllic life for years as a producer in Hollywood, but behind the scenes, it’s been falling apart.
Home Improvement ended in 1999, and in the years since then, it seemed like Zachery Ty Bryan had successfully escaped the common windfalls of many child stars. His life seemed like it was in good order. After his run as the oldest Taylor son, Brad, Bryan eventually transitioned to a career on the other side of the camera as a producer.
He married his high school sweetheart, and the couple had four children during their 13-year marriage, including one set of twins. On the surface, it looked like Zachery Ty Bryan was winning at life, but we all know that things aren’t always what they seem.
Today, Zachery appeared in a Lane County, Oregon courtroom to face charges he accrued in a domestic dispute reported to police after neighbors heard shouting. The actor was charged with felony assault in the fourth degree, constituting domestic violence.
Zachery Ty Bryan pled guilty to the felony assault charge and was lucky to see the rest of his charges dismissed. His plea deal saved him from a possible two-year prison sentence, but he is not without consequences.
According to the deal reached between Bryan and the court, the actor must spend seven days in jail and serve 36 months on supervised probation. He will be required to have no contact with the victim of his crime (except when approved by his probation officer).

Zachery Ty Bryan will have to go to treatment for alcohol and substance abuse via the terms of his probation. He is also not allowed to drink (or do drugs) during the entire term of his probationary period. If he breaks the terms of his probation, he could face up to 20 months in prison.
Zachery Ty Bryan’s lawyer, John Kolego, made a statement in regard to the actor pleading guilty to the charges, saying that “Mr. Bryan decided to accept the resolution and admit that he recklessly caused physical injury to his domestic partner.” He went on to explain that the acceptance was in hopes of minimizing the damage caused to his family.

Though the police have not openly disclosed the identity of the female victim in Bryan’s case, his now-fiancee, Johnnie Faye, has publicly spoken on the situation, saying that it’s a “horrible situation” and that the “truth” doesn’t always line up with what the media states. She went on to ask the public for privacy so she and the kids could begin the healing process.

For that set of charges, Bryan got three years of bench probation (which was still in effect when he received his most recent charges).
He was also ordered to complete a batterer intervention program. Luckily, the multiple other charges on the docket (including harassment, coercion, strangulation, and interference with making a report) in this case were dismissed.
