Brie Larson’s The Marvels Runtime Shocks Fans, Is It Proof The Movie Is Bad?
While Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom may be making waves in the DCEU, it’s the Brie Larson-led The Marvels that’s been holding Marvel audiences in suspense. One thing that’s now crept out from the dark is the film’s runtime which officially clocks in 1 hour and 45 minutes. This will make the film the shortest one in the MCU, causing fans to wonder if this is just one more strike against what will be the studios’ final production of the year.
The Marvels Will Have The Shortest Runtime Of Any MCU Film
The last time audiences tuned in for a movie from the comic book studio this short was way back in 2013 when Chris Hemsworth swung Mjolnir in Thor: The Dark World, which ran for 1 hour and 52 minutes, mirroring the same screen time that Edward Norton had in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.
It’s also almost 20 minutes shorter than the first time Brie Larson appeared as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel in her standalone film in 2019. As for the other titles released by Marvel this year, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was 2 hours and 5 minutes, while James Gunn’s final chapter in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise was 2 hours and 29 minutes.
Numerous Setbacks Could Have Led To A Shorter Runtime
While for those out there who find themselves needing a bathroom break during these longer MCU films, the runtime for The Marvels may be a good thing, could it be spelling danger for the movie’s overall success? The project has faced several setbacks, with Brie Larson and her The Marvels co-stars, who include Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani, unable to go on a press tour due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
While director Nia DaCosta and others involved in a behind-the-scenes capacity have been able to spread the word about the movie, it’s undoubtedly being hurt by the lack of star power.
First Reactions To The Marvels Are Delayed
We also learned just yesterday that first reactions for the Brie Larson-starrer won’t come out until November 8 as Disney and Marvel have pushed the early screenings for press until the final minute. Those with early viewing access will be invited to catch the feature on November 7 and drop their thoughts on November 8. This gives just two days until November 10, when the film soars into theaters.
MCU Fans Are Torn Over Brie Larson
Brie Larson has also been a divisive piece in the puzzle of The Marvels as the award-winning actress has had some second and even third thoughts about continuing her work with the franchise. After receiving hate from the jump, with viewers spewing negativity on the premiere trailer and even test screenings, it seems as though the feature has had the cards stacked against it long before its arrival in theaters – which hasn’t even happened yet.

As for the movie itself, Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel is joined by Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau after the three heroes switch places every time they use their powers. Featuring other familiar faces from the MCU including Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, the movie is a refreshing one from a franchise that doesn’t have a lot of female-led productions.
Despite all the negative feedback and ill-wishes, fans of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel are sure to show up and support what will be one of the most talked about films of the year, for better or for worse.
