Alec Baldwin Facing Even More Charges In Rust Shooting, Finally Getting Conviction?
Alec Baldwin’s time as a free man may be coming to an end after all as the actor could potentially face involuntary manslaughter charges for his role in the death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The tragic accident took place nearly two years ago when a gun that was thought to be unloaded went off, delivering a fatal shot to Hutchins and injuring the movie’s director, Joel Souza. According to NBC News, despite having been previously determined to not have charges pressed against him, New Mexico prosecutors are now seeking to hold Alec Baldwin accountable in one way or another.
Two years since the fatal Rust shooting, prosecutors are once again looking to charge Alec Baldwin for his part in the incident.
The news comes from two sources close to Alec Baldwin’s camp, who claim that the actor will face a grand jury for his hand in the Rust shooting in mid-November. For those who may not remember, the actor’s connection to the death lies within the fact that he was the person who pulled the trigger that ultimately took Hutchins’ life.
Desperately attempting to avoid prison time, it was reported that a plea deal for a petty misdemeanor was brought to the court only to be rescinded over the weekend.
The news undoubtedly comes as a punch in the gut to Alec Baldwin, who had been cleared of the accidental death charges on the Rust set almost half of a year ago.
As mentioned, the terrible event took place nearly two years ago with everyone from Alec Baldwin to the director and Rust’s armorer being called into question for the part that they played in the devastating accident. While it seemed the brunt of the punishment would fall on the shoulders of the production’s armorer, new evidence suggests that Baldwin was careless with the safety precautions while on set.
The news undoubtedly comes as a punch in the gut to Alec Baldwin, who had been cleared of the accidental death charges on the Rust set almost half of a year ago. At that time, special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis believed that the gun malfunctioned following an alteration – a belief that was unraveled after an analysis was released in August.
Finding himself in the headlines and on news channels around the world for all the wrong reasons, Alec Baldwin has staunchly stood by his claims that he was in no way responsible for the Rust catastrophe.
Making sure to cover all of their bases, when Morrissey and Lewis dropped the involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin, they were sure to say that he wasn’t entirely out of the woods and that he could be brought up on charges should future evidence point to him.
Finding himself in the headlines and on news channels around the world for all the wrong reasons, Alec Baldwin has staunchly stood by his claims that he was in no way responsible for the Rust catastrophe. He’s even gone so far as to say during interviews with ABC News and CNN that he didn’t pull the trigger, striving to distance himself as far from the killing as possible.
Like Alec Baldwin, Rust’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has also found herself at the center of the scandal and was charged in January with involuntary manslaughter. She will see her day in court in late February 2024.
Along with the film’s producers, Baldwin settled a wrongful death suit at the beginning of the summer with Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, who now joins the movie as a producer. Rust picked up filming in the spring, proving that the show must always go on – at any cost.
