Invincible Season 2 Trailer Shows Off New Multiverse
Season 2 of Invincible is nearly upon us, with the first half of its eight-episode season scheduled to premiere on November 3, with new episodes airing weekly. The fandom is super excited about all the new things Season 2 is about to bring, and according to the upcoming season’s trailer, one of those novelties is the in-narrative multiverse, with all the new threats Invincible has to face following his father’s betrayal.
Besides new characters and stories, the trailer also introduces the concept of the multiverse and how it comes into play in the upcoming Season 2 and even teases the arrival of Evil Mark.
The animated superhero series is set to pick up right where Season 1 ended, introducing new characters and stories from the comics the show’s based on. The trailer for Invincible Season 2 was revealed at New York Comic-Com, with the series co-creators Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa presenting the trailer to the audiences.
Besides new characters and stories, the trailer also introduces the concept of the multiverse and how it comes into play in the upcoming Season 2 and even teases the arrival of Evil Mark.
The main antagonist of Invincible Season 2 was actually introduced in issue #16 of the Invincible comic as a scientist who has the ability to create portals to alternate universes…
As discerned from the trailer, we can see Mark’s desire to get back into the fold of crime-fighting after being beaten by his father, Omni-Man, in Season 1 of the show. However, it appears that his return to crime fighting won’t be a smooth one, as he apparently continues to grapple with his father’s evil legacy and the introduction of the multiversal villain, Angstrom Levy—who will be the primary antagonist of the upcoming season.
On an equally exciting note, the adaptation of Levy’s origin story into Invincible Season 2 is completely comic book-accurate.
The main antagonist of Invincible Season 2 was actually introduced in issue #16 of the Invincible comic as a scientist who has the ability to create portals to alternate universes and has the desire to design and create a machine that would allow him to harness the knowledge possessed by versions of himself from their respective alternate universe.
Of course, things don’t go as well with his plans, which go horribly wrong once Invincible intervenes, leaving the antagonist deformed and hungry for revenge.
As for Invincible’s coming to terms with his and his father’s Viltrumite heritage and the knowledge that their race is keen on conquering Earth, the trailer shows that much of Season 2 will dive deeper into Mark’s acceptance of who and what he is.
The trailer also shows Allen the Alien pleading to the Coalition of Planets that Mark isn’t like his father and that he desires good for Earth, contrasts the ominous dialogue paired with imagery of collateral damage Mark leaves in his wake whilst defending the same thing he wishes to protect.
But perhaps the best moment of the entire trailer is Mark’s apparent turn to villainy in Invincible Season 2. However, considering that Invincible will be dealing with Levy and his access to the multiverse, it’s entirely possible that we’re seeing the introduction of Evil Mark from one of the alternate universes.
When Does Season 2 Release?
This explanation coincides with Levy’s origin story from the comics, with one of his variants coming from a universe in which Mark had turned evil and destroyed the world. We’ll find out more when Season 2 finally premieres on November 3.
