Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, and Gérard Butler have signed on to star in In the Hand of Dante, a movie adaptation of the famous crime thriller written by Nick Tosches.
Gérard Butler and Jason Momoa were added to the cast in October 2023, and production is taking in place in Italy after the studio made an Interim Agreement with SAG-AFTRA that allows filming during the ongoing strike.
Both the novel and its upcoming adaptation are based on the original manuscript of Dante’s The Divine Comedy, and tells two stories on separate timelines. The first timeline follows Dante Alighieri in the 14th century, and the second timeline follows Oscar Isaac’s Nick Tosches in 2001. At the time of this writing, not much is known about what roles Jason Momoa or Gérard Butler will play in the upcoming drama.
Looking at the source material, we’re met with two intertwining narratives that will overlap as the story progresses in this Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Gérard Butler starring film. In the 14th century timeline, Dante is working on his magnum opus, The Divine Comedy while on a mystical journey in Sicily. Meanwhile, in modern-day New York City, Oscar Isaac’s character is sought out by the mafia to authenticate what they have reason to believe is the original manuscript.

But Nick Tosches gets greedy, and steals the manuscript, which sends him on a dark and violent path that parallels Dante’s story. We’re then taken on a journey from a metaphorical hell and into paradise that weaves both stories together in this compelling drama.
If past work is any indication of future performance, we have reason to believe that Oscar Isaac, Gérard Butler, and Jason Momoa will present to us an engaging and thought-provoking story that transcends time, and brings us to the depths of hell and back. The trio of actors have all made names for themselves in their respective genres, and have the accolades to prove it.
In the meantime, Jason Momoa will appear in the long-awaited Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is slated for a December 20, 2023 release. Gérard Butler can most recently be seen in Kandahar, and will reprise his role of Big Nick in the upcoming Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, which will premiere sometime next year.

Oscar Isaac’s voice can be heard in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which came out earlier this year, and will appear once again in Beyond the Spider-Verse, which was originally set for a March 2024 release, but has been indefinitely delayed due to the ongoing strike.
As of this writing, we’ll have to sit tight and wait for updates on In the Hand of Dante’s production, and its release date. Luckily, Oscar Isaac, Gérard Butler, and Jason Momoa all have plenty of movies out that we can watch in the meantime while we wait for further developments.
