Loki Season 2 Quietly Revealed The Greatest Threat To The TVA
Last night’s episode of Loki gave us what the first episode only teased: more Sylvie. Easily the most interesting character introduced in Loki Season 1, Sylvie is starting off Season 2 in a much more humble place than the previous season, working behind the counter at McDonald’s. But while Sylvie’s current situation may seem mundane compared to her Marvel Comics counterpart or the multiversal jet-setting she got up to last season, that could change at any time now that it’s been revealed that she’s in possession of He Who Remains’ TemPad.
With all of that power in her hands, Sylvie could make a lot of trouble for the Time Variance Authority as Loki Season 2 goes on.
Once described by the director of Loki Season 1’s finale as “a futuristic version of the TVA tech,” He Who Remains’ TemPad is more advanced than the TVA’s usual TemPad’s and allows the wielder to essentially go anywhere and anytime without the aid of an additional Time Twister. With all of that power in her hands, Sylvie could make a lot of trouble for the Time Variance Authority as Loki Season 2 goes on.
As dangerous as all of the TVA tech is, He Who Remains’ TemPad might just take the cake.
Loki Season 1 introduced audiences to the TVA and its tech, which, on the whole, could be the most dangerous collection of objects in the entire MCU. Between the Reset Charge (which can prune whole branches of reality, killing billions in the process) and the Hunter’s Time Sticks (capable of pruning individuals and sending them to the Void). TVA tech makes the Infinity Stones look like nothing more than shiny paperweights. In fact, as TVA pencil pusher Casey revealed in the first season, that’s exactly what members of the TVA use the powerful gems for.
As dangerous as all of the TVA tech is, He Who Remains’ TemPad might just take the cake. While we don’t know the extent of the machine’s capabilities, it appears to be so advanced that the regular TVA TemPads were most likely based on its design.
He Who Remains, being a variant of Kang the Conqueror, however, all but guarantees that he gave the TVA a watered-down design, thereby ensuring that his TemPad is still the most powerful artifact in the organization.
With all of that power, there’s no telling what Sylvie could do. With the power of Kang’s TemPad she could wage war against the TVA in Loki Season 2 or even go back to a time before the agency’s birth and ensure that the TVA is never even formed.
Possibly worse, Sylvie could feel remorseful about killing He Who Remains and attempt to travel to a time and place where he still exists and bring him back to the TVA. With a device that seems to have mastery over all time and space, Sylvie could do pretty much anything.
Sylvie could even go full-on villain in Loki Season 2 and use the TemPad to imprison everyone at the TVA inside their own Time Cells, forcing them to relive a loop of one of their past memories for eternity. On the other hand, she could use the TemPad to save the TVA and reset it back to its previous state before the events at the end of Loki Season 1. Of course, neither of those would be the truly satisfying option.
“Breaking Brad,” the latest episode of Loki, reveals that Sylvie is in possession of the powerful TemPad once owned by the murdered He Who Remains.
Anyone who has ever worked at McDonald’s or in the fast-food industry in general knows the best way for Sylvie to utilize the TemPad would be to punish rude customers. We’re not the idiot here, Karen. You’re the one who asked for your burger plain. If you wanted only Ketchup, then say only ketchup!
