Stephen King’s Greatest Horror Movie Is Now In Its Best Version
When it comes to Stephen King, our sovereign of all things horror, it’s difficult to choose which creepy tale reigns over the rest. While the usual answers regurgitate the common opinion that The Shining, Carrie, or It triumph over the others, King fans may have a new opinion after watching the newest version of The Mist, which was just released in 4K and is currently available on Amazon.
Our own Chief Content Officer, Drew Dietsch, was given a review copy of The Mist 4K/Blu-ray and can confirm it is well worth the purchase. “If you are a fan of Stephen King or know someone in your life that loves his work, this is a must-buy item,” he said. “The 4K upgrade (especially in the fan-favorite black and white version, my preferred version to watch) is superb and makes you feel like you’re looking at the movie for the very first time. This is a modern horror classic, as I’ve said before, and it’s now in the best possible release.”
The Mist, available in 4k, is the best version of Stephen King’s greatest movie available to date.
The Mist is a 2007 film adapted from Stephen King’s 1980 novella of the same title that explores the aftermath of a storm that sweeps through a small town, leaving behind a sinister fog teeming with supernatural creatures. While it may not be widely hailed as a cinematic masterpiece like other King adaptions, The Mist offers an enjoyable and suspenseful experience and serves as a chilling reminder that humans often become their own worst adversaries. It’s a film that deserves a little more credit than it’s typically given — credit that perhaps will be awarded now that fans can watch the film in its best version on The Mist 4K/Blu-ray.

The Mist 4K release comes bundled with some exciting special features. As mentioned above, the new release includes an alternate black-and-white version of Stephen King’s classic story, which has quickly become a fan-favorite edition. Other features include enlightening audio commentary provided by the film’s director and writer, Frank Darabont.
The Mist 4K/Blu-ray edition also includes a treasure trove of deleted scenes, also complete with commentary by Darabont. Additionally, viewers can enjoy a captivating conversation between Darabont and Stephen King. Those who purchase the new version on Blu-ray (not digitally) will be treated to a generous two-hour bonus material package.
The Stephen King film stars Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, and Laurie Holden — names that might seem familiar to fans of another horror franchise, The Walking Dead. Three years prior to the show’s debut on AMC, Jane, Harden, and Holden all appeared in The Mist (and now can be seen in the subsequent 4K edition). After working together on the horror film, they later assumed the roles of Andrea, Dale, and Carol in the world’s most famous zombie series.
The Mist‘s emergence in 4K format breathes new life into a modern horror classic that sometimes gets overshadowed by Stephen King’s more commercial tales.
The connection between The Mist 4K and The Walking Dead isn’t just by happenstance. The two stories are connected by Frank Darabont, who directed The Mist (and commentates in the 4K version), and also developed The Walking Dead, and served as the series’ initial showrunner. In fact, Juan Gabriel Pareja, who portrays a character named Morales in The Mist, also ended up playing a character named Morales in The Walking Dead as a little nod to the director’s previous work.
The Mist‘s emergence in 4K format breathes new life into a modern horror classic that sometimes gets overshadowed by Stephen King’s more commercial tales. With its exceptional visual upgrade, enlightening commentary, and thought-provoking bonus content, this release reaffirms The Mist‘s status as a modern horror gem. For fans of horror, The Mist 4K comes just in time to add the best version of this movie to your spooky season collection.
