Peter Dinklage Rips A Man’s Face Off With A Mop In First Look At The Toxic Avenger
While he may have been the go-to guy when it came to pertinent information and wine on Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage is now stepping into the role of hero in the Red Band trailer for Toxic Avenger. A blood-soaked first look ties in the old with the new, showcasing Dinklage’s titular hero saving a group of hostages. As campy and packed with action as one could imagine, the teaser leaves viewers wanting more – particularly a closer look at the Toxic Avenger’s face.
Although it’s technically the fifth installment in The Toxic Avenger franchise, Blair’s film will serve as a reimagining of the original, keeping much of the story intact but updating it for a modern audience.
The Toxic Avenger trailer plays into the retro vibe of the reimagining, with news clips cutting in and out, each one speculating about the mysterious vigilante. Getting reactions from citizens, local folks can be seen on camera sharing their mind-blowing encounters with the hero. Viewers are then introduced to a gang known as the Nasty Lads, who have forcefully taken a group of hostages.
Just as the crew is figuring out their next move, the back door bursts open, and the Toxic Avenger steps in – with his glowing mop in hand. One by one, he strikes down the criminals, with blood, guts, and gore covering the windows by the time he’s finished. While we never see a close-up of Dinklage’s character, he appears to be the perfect casting in Macon Blair’s new spin on the old classic.
Along with Peter Dinklage, The Toxic Avenger will also star the likes of Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings franchise), Jacob Tremblay (The Little Mermaid), Kevin Bacon (Footloose), Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Sarah Niles (The Sandman), Julian Kostov (A Discovery of Witches), Julia Davis (Nighty Night), Jonny Coyne (Alcatraz), Jane Levy (Shameless), David Yow, and Macon Blair (Green Room).

Winston Gooze’s (Dinklage) existence is a mundane one. Working as a janitor at a health club called Garb-X, things quickly shift for Winston after he is diagnosed with a life-ending illness.
The medicine and treatments he would need to survive are far beyond his wages at Garb-X, and the money-hungry company immediately shoots down his pleas for help with his bills. Turning to the company’s toxic waste runoff as his only solution, Winston takes a leap of faith and is changed into a deformed man with superpowers.
Now going under the moniker The Toxic Avenger, Winston’s out to make right against not only his employers but others who have made his life miserable.
When Does The Toxic Avenger Debut?
Celebrating its arrival alongside other titles, including V/H/S/85 and the first few episodes of Netflix and Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher, The Toxic Avenger premiered in September at the Fantastic Fest. The title serves as Macon Blair’s sophomore feature-length project following the arrival of 2017’s I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore. As of right now, no date has been set for a theatrical release.
