George Miller served as co-writer, co-producer, and director of the film, alongside Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris. The movie was distributed via Roadshow Entertainment in Australia and by Warner Bros. Pictures around the world.
Mad Max: Fury Road is a continuation of the post-apocalyptic desert wasteland setting of the three previous films. Water and fuel are super valuable, super scarce commodities, and there is plenty of conflict surrounding the resources.
It’s a place where there are no “good” people anymore, as everyone has been forced to fight in whatever way possible to survive. Some are simply darker than others.
The movie took a long time to come to fruition, as Miller actually came up with the idea for the film way back in 1987. Pre-production didn’t begin until 1998. In the early 2000s, Mad Max: Fury Road experienced even more delays due to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Iraq War that followed.
The controversy surrounding star Mel Gibson also served as a setback for the movie, and Tom Hardy ultimately replaced the actor. Miller took steps to continue making the film in 2007, and in 2009, he announced that actual filming of the movie would begin early in 2011.

The film finished shooting in December of 2012. Additional footage was filmed in 2013, and the movie finally hit theaters on May 7, 2015.
The plot revolves around Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) and his unlikely connection with Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron). At the beginning of Mad Max: Fury Road, Max is a prisoner of Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). Joe has been using Max as a “blood bag” for a War Boy named Nux, who is ill.
When Furiosa is sent on a mission to trade produce for fuel, she uses the opportunity to defect and run off with five of Joe’s wives who are looking to escape his tyrannical rule. When Joe realizes that Furiosa made off with so many of his valuable commodities, he launches an attack to stop her, and the War Boy brings Max along for the ride.
Max escapes during the onset of a grand sandstorm, and he and Furiosa ultimately team up to get away from the insane ruler. Mad Max: Fury Road is aptly named — the bulk of the film involves a furious chase on a long and dusty desert road.
Furiosa aims to bring freedom and a new life to the women she has freed, but Max has another goal in mind.
The sequel performed well at the box office, grossing close to $400 million. However, the cost of making the film was so extravagant that it was calculated to have ended with a loss of between $20 and $40 million overall.
Despite the financial incursion of the movie, Mad Max: Fury Road prevailed in the minds of critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 97 percent positive rating on the Tomatometer.

The movie has a runtime of two hours and an official “R” rating, so you won’t want the kids to sit in for this viewing. You can find Mad Max: Fury Road streaming on Hulu with a subscription, and you can enjoy all of the action the movie has to offer in the comfort of your own home.
