Gal Gadot Wonder Woman Fate Decided?
One of the biggest questions surrounding James Gunn’s new DCU is whether or not Gal Gadot would continue to portray Amazon warrior Wonder Woman. Now, industry insider MyTimeToShineHello on X has seemingly confirmed that, yes, Gadot will continue to twirl her lasso of truth alongside a recast Superman and Batman. In a recent post, MyTimeToShineHello claimed that according to their sources, Gal Gadot will return as Wonder Woman for James Gunn’s new DCU.
The last time Gal Gadot appeared as Wonder Woman was in The Flash during a cameo alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman. The Flash was touted by many as the movie that would “reboot” the DCEU, making way for James Gunn’s new DC cinematic universe, leaving many fans to wonder what that meant for Gadots Diana of Themyscira.
Much like Henry Cavill’s Superman, Gadot was underutilized in the DCEU.
With Gunn making no bones about canning Henry Cavill in favor of some new blood for his upcoming Superman: Legacy, plus the changes made to The Flash in order to kill off not just Ben Affleck’s Batman but the recently reintroduced Michael Keaton’s as well, it was looking like a sure thing that Gadot would be hanging up her golden tiara and heading for the unemployment line.
On the other hand, it’s also no secret that John Cena’s Peacemaker and Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller would be spared Gunn’s overhauling of the DCEU, making it less a total wiping of the slate and more of what the comic biz calls a “soft reboot.”
When looked at from that angle, it makes perfect sense that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman would also be crossing over into Gunn’s “new” cinematic universe. That’s a good thing because, much like Henry Cavill’s Superman, Gadot was underutilized in the DCEU.
The majority of Gadot’s appearances in the DCEU, like Henry Cavill’s, have been as cameos or as part of an ensemble. The difference between the two, however, is that when Gal Gadot got her own Wonder Woman solo film, fans unanimously praised the Israeli actress’s portrayal of Diana Prince, unlike Cavill’s divisive take on Superman from Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Even when it comes to the mostly maligned Wonder Woman 1984, most of the blame was put on director Patty Jenkins and not on Gadot’s performance.
Industry insider MyTimeToShineHello reports that Gal Gadot will continue to portray Wonder Woman in the new DCU.
All of this is to say that while it makes sense why James Gunn would want to distance his new DCU from all of the baggage associated with Henry Cavill’s Superman, continuing with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman seems like a no-brainer.
Wonder Woman 3
Of course, this alleged news comes after Gal Gadot announced that Wonder Woman 3 was still in development earlier this year, only to have Gunn deny that a third Wonder Woman with Gadot was in the works.
As usual, we won’t know anything definitively until James Gunn makes an official announcement. Whether that announcement will be to welcome Gal Gadot back to DC or to reveal a new Wonder Woman remains to be seen. Even if Gunn decides to go in a new direction, the first Wonder Woman will still stand as one of the few bright spots in the otherwise permanently overcast, grey world of the DCEU.
