Fan Favorite Streaming Series Canceled After Promising Second Season
With the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes, a lot of studios have been turning their backs on previously renewed content. According to Deadline, the latest title to be hit with a cancellation after already being picked up for a second season is Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin. The first television offshoot of the money-making franchise, Peacock is passing on more melodic harmonies coming from Workaholics alum, Adam Devine.
The news comes as an extra shock as the cast and crew of Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin were undoubtedly counting their lucky stars when the series was picked up for a second season all the way back in January. Now, over half a year later, the streamer’s backtracking move must feel like a massive punch to the gut.
Although it was renewed for a second season earlier this year, Peacock has now decided to cancel Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin.
The first season of Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin followed Adam Devine’s titular and fan-favorite franchise character, Bumper Allen, to Germany where he’s starting over fresh. It’s been several years since the events of the last Pitch Perfect film and Bumper is hoping to make it to the top all over again after one of his songs has become a hit overseas.
Filling out the Bumper In Berlin cast for the show’s first season was Sarah Hyland (Modern Family), Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect 2), Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), and Lera Abova (Anna).
While many shows, including The CW’s axed Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, were able to shop around for a new network following its cancellation, the same won’t be said for Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin. Universal owns the rights to the franchise that gave birth to the series, meaning that it won’t be able to simply pick up and move to another network.
And, even with the WGA strike making major headway in recent days, even if the strike was to come to an end, Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin will still likely remain canceled. Despite being the streamer’s biggest comedy premiere of all time, almost a full year has passed since the debut episode reached the monumental milestone.
With this in mind, the studio is likely worried that the series has lost steam with audiences while also considering the ever-growing lineup of projects that will need to go into production when the strikes do come to an end.
As mentioned at the top, Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin is far from the only highly-anticipated title to receive a renewal reversal. Just last month, Amazon Prime Video shocked subscribers when the streamer decided to pull back its plans to move forward with sophomore seasons of both A League of Their Own and The Peripheral.

With both titles performing well on the platform and leaving audiences on a cliffhanger at the end of their first seasons, viewers (and the cast and creative teams behind the shows) were understandably outraged by Prime Video’s decision.
The last Pitch Perfect franchise feature came out in 2017, following two other very successful films in a five-year span. With Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin being the only recent project to make its way out of the musical series, it seems that audiences will have a long time to wait for more stories and tunes from the music-filled universe.
