Spider-Man Director Making Movie About Most Mysterious Place On Earth

By Douglas Helm | Updated

Marc Webb is the latest director to be attached to the Skydance film Bermuda about the mysterious Bermuda Triangle, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Webb is best known for his work on Andrew Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man films and his breakout film 500 Days of Summer. Webb is the only confirmed member of the creative team for the film at this point, along with the attached producers David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Aimee Rivera.

Skydance’s Bermuda Triangle film has been in the works for some time now, and the film has had multiple directors attached before finally landing on Webb. Originally, Sam Raimi, another Spidey director, was attached to direct Bermuda. Scott Derrickson, who handled the first Doctor Strange movie before Raimi stepped in for the sequel, was also attached back in 2020, with Chris Evans attached to star.

Marc Webb, who directed the Andrew Garfield led Amazing Spider-Man films, has been tapped to helm the long-brewing Bermuda.

So, just like the planes and ships that frequently vanish in the Bermuda Triangle, this project has lost quite a few of the stars and directors who were originally planned to star in the film. As of now, Skydance has no actors or writers attached due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Reportedly, the movie will focus on choosing a writer after the WGA strikes are over to get the movie back on track.

Before Marc Webb takes on the Bermuda Triangle project, the next film we’ll see from the director is Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White, which stars Rachel Zegler in the titular role along with Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Skydance, in the meantime, is fresh off the success of its recent 2023 blockbuster films Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Maybe the studio will keep the success going by bringing on Tom Cruise as the lead role in their Bermuda film.

Other talent that has both joined and left the development of Bermuda since it was announced include Sam Raimi, Scott Derrickson, and Chris Evans.

For now, Skydance is keeping the plot of the Bermuda Triangle film under wraps, only revealing that the setting is the mysterious patch of ocean in the Caribbean where ships and planes sometimes go missing. Presumably, the film will have some fictional reason that these ships and planes disappear, and the protagonists will find that reason out for themselves. It sounds like Bermuda will be some kind of adventure film in the vein of Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider.

While the Bermuda Triangle movie will reportedly have Marc Webb consulting on the script, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be on board as the screenwriter. It’ll be interesting to see who they bring on board for the script once the WGA strike is over. It’ll also be interesting to see the cast for the film filled out in the near future.

When Can We Expect Bermuda?

There’s no word on a release window for the Bermuda Triangle movie yet, but we’ll presumably be finding out more about this film once the strikes are over and the unions and the studios represented by the AMPTP come to an agreement. In the meantime, Marc Webb’s Snow White film is set for a March 2024 release date. We’ll keep you updated on any news about Bermuda.
