Don’t let the playboy persona fool you. Tony Stark is an inventor of not only his ingenious Iron Man armor, but groundbreaking artificial intelligence and clean energy for the Marvel universe.

As one of Marvel’s greatest problem solvers, he has proven that his intellect is not limited by resources. The very first Iron Man suit was built with scraps in a cave. With his laboratory and Stark Industries backing his work, he is capable of almost anything.

Stark’s prowess as an inventor is undeniable, but his intelligence is sometimes clouded by a lack of wisdom. His brain power makes him extremely capable, even without superpowers, but his fallibility as a man is what makes him truly interesting.

Bruce Banner was on another level when he invented the gamma bomb that turned him into the Hulk, an accident that changed his life forever. Banner is capable of creating amazing things in the laboratory, but has also proven his intelligence through his incredible survival tactics while on the run from the government.

Other great Marvel minds, such as Tony Stark and Reed Richards, recognize Banner as a valuable peer in the quest for scientific achievement. His contributions to science have been world-changing in a variety of arenas and disciplines, but Banner constantly fights for his legacy not to be overshadowed by the destructive potential of his alter ego.

Hank Pym is so smart that he was dubbed the Scientist Supreme of Earth. So, yeah, he’s kind of a big deal. Thanks to Pym Particles, he can be a very small deal, as well.

Pym’s discovery of Pym Particles allowed him to change the size of objects, including himself. His research in quantum mechanics is only the tip of the iceberg; his aptitude for cybernetics and entomology also enabled him to build a helmet which allows him to communicate with ants.

In the comic books, Pym is the creator of one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel universe: Ultron. While creating Ultron may not have been the smartest idea, it still took a genius to do it.

Shuri is the smartest person in Wakanda, which is saying a lot – they have a great school system over there.

Vibranium is one of the most powerful resources in the Marvel universe, and in the hands of a genius like Shuri, it can be used for a huge variety of creative purposes. One such purpose is the suit of the Black Panther.

Shuri’s intelligence is undeniable, but as seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, her logical mind can close her off to the spiritual elements of her culture. As is true for most geniuses, Shuri’s intellect is a blessing and a curse. On the whole, she contributes some of the finest scientific work in the Marvel universe, making her one of the smartest characters in its ranks.

Not everyone with great intelligence uses it for good. Dr. Doom is one of the Marvel universe’s most formidable villains. Doom uses his massive intellect to fuel his never ending quest for power.

His pursuit of knowledge has turned him into a brilliant scientist, sorcerer, and tactician. As the ruler of the kingdom of Latveria, Doom believes his talents would be better utilized as the ruler of the entire planet, or even beyond.

Doom may not be the smartest Marvel character, but you may have a hard time convincing him of that. The biggest problem is that he can back his ego up, making his genius mind one of the most dangerous in the Marvel universe.

Moon Girl may only be nine years old, but she is an accomplished inventor of several high-tech gadgets. That includes the device that opened a portal in spacetime that brought a giant dinosaur to her dimension.

She teamed up with Devil Dinosaur to create one of the strangest Marvel duos out there. Moon Girl operates under bizarre circumstances, but her intellect is unparalleled. To prove it, she complete the Banner B.O.X., a competency test developed by Bruce Banner, in under a minute. No one else, not even Banner, has ever been able to solve it at all.

Reed Richards has long been considered the world’s smartest man in the Marvel universe. As the leader of the Fantastic Four, Richards is an expert in physics, chemistry, and engineering.

His photographic memory and out-of-the-box thinking make him a deft problem solver that surpasses the intellectual capabilities of everyone on the planet.

Richards balances his supreme intelligence with candor. He is a family man and arguably the most stable genius on the list – he does not wrestle with the same kinds of demons as Hank Pym, Bruce Banner, or Tony Stark.

His age and experience bring a wisdom to his work, which is focused on the betterment of humanity. No one thinks like Reed Richards, and the Marvel universe is a better place thanks to his pursuit of knowledge.

As smart as Reed Richards is, he admitted early on that his daughter, Valeria, had already surpassed him. 

The daughter of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, Valeria Richards is perhaps the most intelligent Marvel character based on her potential, but her achievements are nowhere near those of her father. As she gets older and her story expands, it will be interesting to see how Valeria continues to apply her intellect to the Marvel universe.

Though she does not technically have superhuman abilities, Valeria’s inventions make it so she practically does. She has emulated her mother’s forcefield capabilities and Dr. Doom’s armor, all through technology she created.

Valeria Richards has a complicated history, and this young character still has a big impact to make on the Marvel universe with her massive intelligence.
