The Gerard Butler Action Thriller On Netflix That Will Keep You Guessing
Gerard Butler fans rejoice – Netflix has added another title of the action star’s to their ever-expanding slate of content. If you’re looking for a fresh bit of high-octane adventure to kick off the weekend, look no further than Last Seen Alive, a movie that sees Butler as a man on the search for his wife. Directed by Brian Goodman (Black Butterfly), the pulse-pounding feature is a must-watch for the Butler-stan in your life – especially if that’s you.
Like many of Gerard Butler’s other features, Last Seen Alive is filled with gunfights and explosions as the main character strikes down any baddie standing in his way.
In Last Seen Alive, we meet Gerard Butler’s character Will Spann, who is on a road trip with his wife, Lisa (Jaimie Alexander) to visit her parents. Along the way, the couple stops for a break and to fuel up at a gas station. While Will pumps the gas, Lisa goes into the station but when she comes out, she gets out of Will’s eyesight and disappears.
Frantically searching for his wife, we come to discover that the pair had hit rough waters in their marriage, with Lisa pushing for a trial separation. Because of this, Will is at the top of the suspect list, but with a heart full of love for his wife, he’ll stop at nothing to track down the people responsible for her kidnapping and, hopefully, find her alive. Like many of Gerard Butler’s other features, Last Seen Alive is filled with gunfights and explosions as the main character strikes down any baddie standing in his way.
Along with Gerard Butler and Jaimie Alexander, Last Seen Alive also featured the talents of Russell Hornsby (In Treatment), Ethan Embry (Can’t Hardly Wait), Bruce Altman (Fifty Shades Darker), Michael Irby (Mayans M.C.), and Cindy Hogan.
The film serves as Brian Goodman’s sophomore directorial effort following 2017’s Black Butterfly which starred Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. A man of talent on both sides of the camera, Goodman has been previously featured in a slew of movies and television shows including Mark Ruffalo’s Sympathy for Delicious, Justin Lin’s Annapolis, John Shea’s Southie, Line of Fire, Rizzoli & Isles, and Castle.
A Voltage Pictures production, Last Seen Alive made its Netflix debut on October 1, 2022, becoming a success for the streamer. Raking in viewers from around the world, it was a top title in countries including the United States, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. With a mixed reception from critics, the Gerard Butler-led film currently holds a 13 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Gerard Butler’s Production Company Produced Last Seen Alive
Along with starring in the film, Gerard Butler also added his name to the production team under his banner, G-Base Productions. Over the years since its founding, G-Base has backed a slew of Gerard Butler’s films including Copshop, Plane, Law Abiding Citizen, Greenland, the Has Fallen series, Den of Thieves, Hunter Killer, The Vanishing, and, most recently, Kandahar. Soon, the production company will attach its name to the Aaron Eckhart and Nina Dobrev-led feature, The Bricklayer.
Along with Kandahar being G-Base’s latest production, it was also the most recent title for Gerard Butler. Another action flick under his belt, the movie is directed by Ric Roman Waugh with whom Gerard Butler has previously teamed up on films including Greenland and Angel Has Fallen. The movie is a pulse-pounding thriller that sees Butler’s CIA agent on a deadly mission to get back to the United States after becoming one of the most wanted men in the world.
Gerard Butler’s Packed Schedule
Up next, Gerard Butler has quite a few projects on his radar. First, he’ll reprise his role in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera alongside O’Shea Jackson Jr. who also returns to his role from the 2018 feature. The Christian Gudegast-helmed film will pick up immediately after the events of Den of Thieves with Butler’s Sheriff Nick O’Brien hunting down Jackson’s Donnie Wilson before the latter has the opportunity to pull off another major heist.
Beyond the Den of Thieves sequel, Gerard Butler will lend his vocal talents to an ever-growing cast of recognizable names in the upcoming animated film, Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin. The animated action movie also stars the voices of Owen Wilson (Loki), Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act), Kate Winslet (Avatar: The Way of Water), James Franco (The Interview), Megan Fox (Jennifer’s Body), Elliot Page (The Umbrella Academy), and Isabella Rossellini (Death Becomes Her).
