The Greatest Superhero Trilogy Ever Is Returning To Theaters
With Christopher Nolan burning up the box office with his latest mega-feature, Oppenheimer, there’s never been a better time for audiences to return to his beloved – The Dark Knight Trilogy. In honor of Batman Day, on September 16, DC fans will have the chance to swing by a Showcase Cinema and catch either one film or the whole enchilada. Mostly based in New England, the theater chain took to its Instagram account to share the good news.
Featuring a medley of images, the social media post displays each official poster for the films in The Dark Knight Trilogy. Informing potential audiences that tickets are on sale now, you’ll want to get on this limited event as soon as possible. Because the films are hailed as some of the best — if not the best — titles starring the Caped Crusader, the one-day showings will likely sell out fast.
With engaging performances from a slew of big names, The Dark Knight Trilogy easily solidified itself as a legendary collection of cinematic features. The second film in the collection, The Dark Knight, led the charge on Warner Bros.’ charts for the studio’s highest-grossing film of all time.
However, that would all change this summer when Greta Gerwig’s Barbie toppled the global box office, kicking The Dark Knight from its longtime position.
Kicking off The Dark Knight Trilogy was 2005’s Batman Begins. Picking up the torch from directors of the past including Tim Burton, Joel Schumacher, and Leslie H. Martinson, Christopher Nolan cast Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne aka Batman, kicking off a set of historic films. Starring as the film’s villains were Cillian Murphy and Liam Neeson as Scarecrow and Ra’s al Ghul respectively.
The title also starred Katie Holmes, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Gary Oldman.
Three years later, in 2008, The Dark Knight would serve as the second, and perhaps most celebrated, installation in The Dark Knight Trilogy. Along with returning performances, the cast also welcomed Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, with Ledger playing Joker and Eckhart portraying Harvey Dent aka Two-Face.
A staple in cinematic history, the second film in The Dark Knight Trilogy wowed audiences but had a somber tone to it as it was released following the tragic death of Ledger. Viewers could see that the late actor truly gave his all to the role – something that was also noticed by critics.
He would go on to win a posthumous Academy Award for his performance with the film garnering nominations and wins at the Academy Awards, BAFTAs, Critics’ Choice Awards, and Golden Globe Awards.
Finally, to wrap up The Dark Knight Trilogy, the stage was set for The Dark Knight Rises. Picking up eight years after the events of the previous film, Tom Hardy’s Bane wreaks havoc on the city of Gotham. Bringing the heat with yet another all-star cast, Caine, Oldman, Bale, and Freeman all reprised their roles for the last installment with Hardy joined by fellow newcomers Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Marion Cotillard.
