Disney’s Most Anticipated Series Finally Gets A Trailer
Fans of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians franchise have been eagerly waiting for the new Disney original TV series, and now they finally have a taste of what to expect. A brand-new teaser trailer was just released by Disney+ in honor of Percy Jackson’s birthday (August 18) and was shared by Deadline. All eight episodes of the first season will be streaming on Disney+, with the first two episodes premiering on December 20, followed by new episodes each week.

The new TV series will follow Percy Jackson, a young demigod who must try and save the world from evil Titans. The trailer shows Percy Jackson and two friends traveling around the world as they battle Titans and creatures, and it ends with them turning to meet a mysterious voice that says, “we’ve been expecting you.” It looks like an adventurous, coming-of-age journey that fans will surely enjoy.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on the six fantasy novels by author Rick Riordan. The first five books in the series were released between 2005 and 2009, and the sixth book (The Chalice of the Gods) will be released on September 26, 2023. Rick Riordan and his wife (Becky) have been involved in the development of the series, so it should closely resemble the stories in the books.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 adapts The Lightning Thief, the first novel in the series.
The first season of the new show is set to follow the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief. In this book, Percy Jackson learns that he is a demigod, and then he must find Zeus’ lightning bolt that was stolen. Along the way, he meets several Gods and Goddesses and travels to the underworld to try and rescue his mother.
The cast of the new Disney series includes the young Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) as Percy Jackson, with Leah Jeffries (Beast) and Aryan Simhadri (Cheaper by the Dozen) playing his friends Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood, respectively. The show will also include several big-name actors portraying Gods and Goddesses, including Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, Megan Mullally as Alecto, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, and Adam Copeland (better known as WWE wrestler Edge) as Ares.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians was originally adapted into a major movie by Home Alone and Harry Potter director Christopher Columbus.
While Percy Jackson is new to the Disney Universe, this is not the first time that the books have been adapted on the screen. In 2010, Logan Lerman starred as the young demigod in Christopher Columbus’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and the sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters from director Thor Freudenthal. Both films received mixed reviews from critics, and the remaining four books in the franchise were sadly not adapted into films.
If the new Disney+ series’s first season goes well, it will hopefully adapt all six of the Percy Jackson books. Each season could be devoted to one of the books, allowing fans to really see the story brought to life, as opposed to missing out on so many details in a short movie. If that’s the case, then it will follow a similar style as the new Harry Potter reboot that is being developed by Max.
