Warrior Nun Returning As Movie Trilogy After Netflix Cancellation
Warrior Nun, the most fun a title has had with blasphemy since Velocipastor, is set to be resurrected on Netflix in the form of a trilogy of feature films. Netflix canceled the series after only two seasons, but thanks to support from the show’s devoted fanbase, it looks like Warrior Nun will rise again. According to Deadline, the series’ Executive Producer, Dean English, recently announced via social media that Sister Ava Silva will again be weilding her sword against the forces of evil.

English released a statement on the website warriornunsaved.com thanking fans of the series for their support and praising their “incredible energy.”
“I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three,” English said, emphasizing the trilogy aspect of the announcement, including a definition of the word “trilogy” for any fans unaware of the word’s meaning.
Warrior Nun was created for Netflix by Simon Barry based on the comic book Warrior Nun Areala by Ben Dunn.
English is limited in how much he can discuss the upcoming Warrior Nun projects due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but did hint at further projects should the trilogy of films be successful.
“Does this perhaps infer that there’s going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?” English asks before answering his own awkwardly worded question with a simple “Yes,” before promising to disclose more details in the future.
Warrior Nun was created for Netflix by Simon Barry based on the comic book Warrior Nun Areala by Ben Dunn. The series revolves around 19-year-old Ava (Alba Baptista), an orphan who is reluctantly chosen to be part of the Order of the Cruciform Sword, a secret order of fighting Nuns and other clergy tasked with fighting the forces of Hell.
The Warrior Nun series has inspired such a loyal fanbase that upon cancellation, several fans pooled their resources to fund 10 different billboards across three continents in an effort to get the show brought back. The fandom’s support for the series was so intense it earned a story on the front cover of Empire magazine four months after Netflix canceled the show.
Star Trek: The Original Series was famously going to be canceled following its second season, but NBC had a change of heart thanks to a grassroots letter-writing campaign from fans.
English failed to say just who is producing the trilogy of Warrior Nun films—be it Netflix or some other entertainment company—most likely a result of the strikes. The producer did, however, encourage fans to sign up for a “Halo Bearer” email hotline in order to get the latest news about the upcoming Warrior Nun films as soon as it becomes available, or as soon as he’s allowed to release it publically.
Warrior Nun is far from the first IP to be resurrected, thanks to overwhelming fan support. Star Trek: The Original Series was famously going to be canceled following its second season, but NBC had a change of heart thanks to a grassroots letter-writing campaign from fans. Most recently, vocal fans online were able to get Zack Snyder’s lost version of Justice League released after years of pushing the hashtag #releasethesnydercut on social media.
In the meantime, fans of Warrior Nun will have to be content rewatching the series on Netflix until more news becomes available.
