See The First Look At Jenna Ortega’s New Thriller
While we’ll need to wait to find out if Jenna Ortega will be returning for Scream 7, audiences are one step closer to seeing the actress in her upcoming feature, Finestkind. Thanks to the Twitter account for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), fans are getting their first look at the star and the rest of her cast mates lined up and in costume in the Brian Helgeland penned and helmed project. Set in a bleak background with plenty of dark colors, Ortega can be seen standing beside her co-stars Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Foster, and Toby Wallace.
What Is Finestkind About?
Centered on two brothers who have recently picked up their relationship after having distance between them, the film will follow the duo and their father as they join ranks with a Boston crime syndicate. While they’re scheming and dreaming, they meet a mysterious young woman, played by Jenna Ortega. This first look at Finestkind puts a new spin on the core four as the characters look like they’re ready to take on the dangerous criminal operation even if they are in over their heads.
Finestkind was originally set to star Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Ansel Elgort, but went under a major overhaul when Paramount+ picked up the rights in the spring of 2022.
Along with Jenna Ortega, Toby Wallace, Ben Foster, and Tommy Lee Jones, Finestkind will also star Tim Daly (Wings), Aaron Stanford (The Hills Have Eyes 2006), Clayne Crawford (Rectify), Lolita Davidovich (Blaze), Ismael Cruz Córdova (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Fernanda Andrade (Moon Knight), Scotty Tovar, Jackie Sandler, Kevin Craig West, Rebecca Gibel, Charlie Thurston, and Meghan Leathers.
Although the Jenna Ortega-led feature is just about to see the light of day when it premieres in September at TIFF, the movie has been in the works since 2018. Back then, Finestkind was set to star Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Ansel Elgort, but went under a major overhaul when Paramount+ picked up the rights in the spring of 2022.
It was around this time that filming began and the ensemble cast was announced with production wrapping only one month later.
One of Hollywood’s most prominent rising stars, Jenna Ortega has plenty on her plate beyond her role in Finestkind. Earlier this year, she reprised her role as Tara Carpenter in the slasher flick, Scream VI, a role that fans are hoping she’ll hop back into when the next film in the franchise starts rolling.
Upcoming Jenna Ortega Projects
With the SAG-AFTRA strike continuing, the star’s other projects including the highly-anticipated Beetlejuice 2 have gone on a temporary hiatus until a deal is reached between the union and studios. Beyond the sequel to the film made famous by Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder (both of whom will return for the second installment), Ortega will also soon appear opposite Paul Rudd in Alex Scharfman’s dark comedy, Death of a Unicorn.
Jenna Ortega’s name is also attached to a slew of other titles including Jade Bartlett’s Miller’s Girl, an untitled project from Trey Edward Shults, and Tiffany Paulsen’s Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall. She’ll also (hopefully) be hard at work on the second season of Netflix’s critically acclaimed series, Wednesday. As of right now, no theatrical release date has been set for Finestkind.
