Donald Glover is on track to become a Star Wars trailblazer, taking on both writing and acting roles in the upcoming Lando series on Disney+. As reported by Variety, Glover, famed for embodying Lando Calrissian, will co-write the Disney+ series script alongside his brother, Stephen Glover.

Donald Glover will serve as both a writer and actor for the upcoming Lando series coming to Disney+.

Although Justin Simien, the creator of Dear White People, was initially named as the lead writer upon the series’ announcement in 2020, it’s now the Glover brothers who are shouldering the scripting duties.

In his introduction to the Star Wars saga, Donald Glover was cast as a young Lando Calrissian in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Stepping into the shoes of Billy Dee Williams, the actor who originally brought Lando to life, was undoubtedly a daunting task.

However, Glover approached the role with confidence, reviving the essence of the suave and cunning smuggler while adding his own unique touch to the character.

Although Solo: A Star Wars Story was met with mixed reviews upon its release, Donald Glover received praise for his portrayal of Lando in the film. Critics and audience alike lauded his performance. With undeniable flair, Glover successfully breathed new life into the iconic character, engaging a fresh generation of Star Wars fans.

Donald Glover’s History as a TV Writer

Donald Glover is certainly well-acquainted with the world of television writing; at the young age of 23, he was enlisted by Tina Fey as a scriptwriter for the renowned NBC sitcom, 30 Rock. Moreover, he both created and starred in the successful FX series Atlanta, occasionally stepping into the director’s role as well.

His multifaceted work on Atlanta brought him considerable recognition, earning him a collection of prestigious accolades, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and a pair of Golden Globe Awards.

The agreement for Donald Glover and his brother to assume control of the Lando series was reportedly established prior to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) going on strike.

Justin Simien is said to have departed the project due to scheduling conflicts and the strain of investing substantial effort into the project with minimal updates since its 2020 announcement. Simien recently helmed Haunted Mansion for Disney, slated for release on July 28.

Apart from the fact that Donald Glover will star in and co-write the Lando series with his brother Stephen, additional details about the project remain sparse. Due to the ongoing WAG and SAG-AFTRA strike, updates on the project may be limited until those issues are resolved. Nonetheless, Glover has a plethora of other projects keeping him occupied in the meantime.

Where To See Donald Glover Next

In his next venture, Donald Glover will star in the television adaptation of the hit action movie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The film revolves around a seemingly mundane married couple who discover they are both assassins, hired by rival agencies to kill each other. Slated for a November premiere, the series, co-created by Glover, will follow a similar storyline.

Donald Glover is also set to revive his role as Troy Barnes in the highly anticipated Community movie. The narrative of the film will reportedly pick up where the series concluded. Other cast members, including Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Joel McHale, Ken Jeong, and Jim Rash, are also expected to reprise their roles.
