One Of The Most Popular Streaming Shows Just Went On Permanent Hiatus, Is It Canceled?
Now that we’re weeks into the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, more and more productions are announcing their slowdowns and cancellations. Deadline reports that Silo’s Season 2 is the latest to join the paused titles with a hiatus placed for an indefinite time.
Apple TV+’s sci-fi series Silo will pause all production on its second season amid the Hollywood strikes.
The news will no doubt come as a surprise to many fans of the Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller but with so many viewers at home supporting the strike, it’s an understandable step that needs to be taken to guarantee that rights are ensured for those in the entertainment industry to put food on their tables and earn a livable wage.
Based on Hugh Howey’s Wool series of books, the show was created by Graham Yost for Apple TV+ and brought audiences an excellent adaptation of Howey’s novels for a small screen setting. The first season introduced audiences to all the main players in the show who are living in a dystopian future in which they all live together in an underground silo made up of 144 levels.
While it’s unclear where Silo Season 2 will take fans, the show has followed pretty closely with the books so reading ahead may reveal the next steps for Yost and his all-star cast of characters.
Speaking of Silo’s call sheet, while we may not know when it will return for a Season 2, it’s likely that most of the main cast will be back for more sci-fi action. Included in the lineup is Rebecca Ferguson, Rashida Jones, Tim Robbins, Common, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, Harriet Walter, David Oyelowo, and Rick Gomez.
Earning itself bragging rights as Apple’s number-one drama series, there’s no doubt that the network is hoping to get cameras rolling again as soon as possible.
The first season also featured special and recurring appearances from familiar faces including Game of Thrones star Iain Glen and Motherland’s Tanya Moodie.
Silo Season 2 was in the middle of filming when the news broke surrounding its indefinite hiatus.
A break was being taken for the crew to get sets changed over but Apple decided to pause the production on Silo Season 2 until a new pickup time is set. Earning itself bragging rights as Apple’s number-one drama series, there’s no doubt that the network is hoping to get cameras rolling again as soon as possible.
Other Series Affected by the Strikes
With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike in full swing, Silo Season 2 is just the latest in an ever-growing number of titles to announce their production delays. Just last week, it was revealed that Disney+’s Star Wars series spin-off hit, Andor, would be halting production on its second season with actors walking from the set.
Although Deadpool 3 recently announced that it would move its release date up (something that rarely happens for any film, let alone a Marvel project), filming is now at a stand-still, joining other big titles including Wicked and Amateur.
As for fans at home waiting for news of when shows like Silo Season 2 will commence filming, it’s easy to look at what’s going on and realize that both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes may last longer than initially anticipated.
With studios willing to do everything in their power to ensure keeping as much money as possible and not giving the workers their fair dues, there’s nothing much that can be done aside from returning the picket lines day after day in support of those creatives who bring us the best content around.
