It has been almost one year since the unfortunate and tragic death of actress Anne Heche. In a career that spanned 35 years, the Anne Heche movies list included a number of feature films and underrated flicks.

While she may be best known for her three-year relationship with comedian Ellen DeGeneres, Heche had carved out a very respectable Hollywood career.

Let’s take a look at some of the best on the Anne Heche movies list with rankings to go with it.

Anne Heche’s Best Movies

1. Donnie Brasco (1997)

Anne Heche movies list

REVIEW SCORE

It’s hard not to have this one at the top of the Anne Heche movies list. Donnie Brasco tells the true story of Joseph Pistone, an FBI agent who went undercover as Donnie Brasco, a jewel thief who works his way into the Bonanno crime family. Johnny Depp portrayed Brasco.

Al Pacino played real-life Bonnano enforcer, Lefty Ruggiero, the man who would bring Brasco into the family, becoming his friend and mentor.

Anne Heche is on board as Maggie Pistone, Joseph’s wife. She not only had to deal with his undercover activities with the mafia, but she had to do it for over five years.

The real Pistones continue to live under assumed names in an undisclosed location and Joseph still has a contract out on him.

2. Wag the Dog (1997)

REVIEW SCORE

Wag the Dog is a 1997 political black comedy involving the President of the United States literally getting caught with his pants down. And there’s a reason it ranks high on the Anne Heche movies list.

After the President is busted making advances on an underaged girl inside the Oval Office two weeks before the election, a spin doctor is brought in to distract the American public by creating a fake war in Albania.

Anne Heche plays presidential aide Winifred Ames, who hires Conrad Brean (Dustin Hoffman) to change the public’s mind about something else.

In turn, Brean hires Hollywood producer Stanley Motss (Robert DeNiro) to create the war. The timing of the film couldn’t have arrived any better as it premiered a short one month before the Clinton-Lewinsky sex scandal.

3. My Friend Dahmer (2017)

REVIEW SCORE

My Friend Dahmer is on the Anne Heche movies list and tells the story of one of the world’s most notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer. The movie is based on the graphic novel by John “Derf” Backderf, the man who was friends with Dahmer in high school in the 1970s until Dahmer began his murderous spree.

The film follows Dahmer from his high school years through when he was finally captured. Anne Heche plays Joyce Dahmer, Jeffrey’s mother, a lady who struggled with mental illness. Alex Wolff (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) costars as Derf.

4. Return to Paradise (1998)

REVIEW SCORE

On the Anne Heche movies list, Return to Paradise marks the first time she and Vince Vaughn worked together, the second time coming the same year with the remake of Psycho.

Here, Anne Heche plays Beth, a young lawyer who is trying to convince two Americans to return to Malaysia, where their friend is being held for a bag of hash the three threw in the garbage while they were vacationing.

Vaughn plays Sheriff, one of the men, while Joaquin Phoenix plays Lewis McBride, the young man held in the Malaysian prison. The film showcases the brutalities of the Malaysian justice system.

Catfight is a black comedy on the Anne Heche movie list that also stars Sandra Oh and Alicia Silverstone. It’s a film about comas and other unfortunate events.

Veronica (Oh) is an alcoholic who is unhappy in her marriage with Stanley. When Ashley meets up with Veronica, they immediately do not get along, and an ensuing fistfight causes Veronica to hit her head and slip into a coma.

Two years later, Veronica wakes with no memory of the fight. It doesn’t change how they treat each other because they end up fighting again, only this time it is Ashley who falls into a coma. Will they ever see eye-to-eye?

6. Rampart (2011)

REVIEW SCORE

In this hard-hitting crime drama, Rampart tells the story of the life of one Los Angeles Police Department Officer and the fallout of his less-than-dubious career after the real-life Rampart scandal from the late 1990s.

Woody Harrelson stars as Officer Dave Brown, who is finding out quickly that the corruption he has been involved in does not make for a good career. The film depicts the widespread corruption in the Rampart Division which resulted in over 140 civil lawsuits and cost the city more than $125 million in settlements.

Anne Heche stars as Catherine with a solid list of costars that includes Sigourney Weaver, Ned Beatty, Ben Foster, Ice Cube, Robin Wright, Brie Larson, and Jon Bernthal.

REVIEW SCORE

Is there life after death? Reincarnation? That is what this Anne Heche movie Birth tries to answer. The film stars Nicole Kidman as Anna, a young woman who begins to believe that a ten-year-old boy is the reincarnation of her deceased husband, Sean.

The plot thickens as he becomes more and more convincing, being able to recite explicit details of their relationship.

Anne Heche is Clara, the wife of Clifford, who holds a dark secret with Sean. Their past will directly affect the future. Is Sean really the reincarnation of Anna’s dead husband?

8. John Q (2002)

REVIEW SCORE

How far with a father go for his son? Denzel Washington shows exactly how far after his son is diagnosed with an enlarged heart, his HMO insurance will not cover the necessary transplant. That’s the gist of this flick on Anne Heche’s movie list.

Now Washington’s John Quincy Archibald must find another way to get his son the transplant. With no money to his name, John figures his only way out would be to force the hospital into performing the life-saving transplant, knowing full well he will be going to jail afterward.

Anne Heche is Rebecca Payne, a hospital administrator who delivers the terrible news to John Q.

9. Six Days, Seven Nights (1998)

anne heche movies list

REVIEW SCORE

On the Anne Heche movies list, Six Days, Seven Nights could be one of her most underrated films and performances. The romantic comedy stars Heche in Ivan Reitman’s film as Robin Monroe, a fashion magazine editor.

When her boyfriend surprises her with a week-long trip to the South Pacific Island of Makatea, she gets what she was hoping for: a proposal.

But then she is called away to Tahiti by her boss to supervise a fashion shoot. Needing to get there, she hires Quinn Harris (Harrison Ford) to fly her in his plane.

During the flight, the plane is struck by lightning, forcing the pair to crash land on a deserted island. Now, the two must deal with isolation, island critters, pirates, and each other in hopes of being rescued.

10. Psycho (1998)

anne heche movies list

REVIEW SCORE

There might be something worth redeeming in this Gus Van Sant shot-for-shot remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic thriller, Psycho. The film stars an extremely miscast Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates, a role that defined Anthony Perkins’ career.

While it was fun to watch the more modern take on Psycho, it is hard to imagine the why of this film.

Anne Heche stars as Marion Crane, the unfortunate who stops for the night at the Bates Motel. Crane was famously played by Janet Leigh in the original Hitch film.

Heche’s Crane suffers the same fate as Leigh’s, but Heche’s shower scene is nowhere as effective as what Hitchcock filmed in 1960. On the Anne Heche movies list, this might be her most memorable performance.
