Watch One Piece Live-Action Netflix Series In Amazing First Trailer
A crew of young pirates is setting sail in the first trailer for Netflix’s live-action series, One Piece. Based on the fan-favorite manga, Deadline reports that the first official teaser made its way onto screens at San Diego Comic-Con where attendees got first dibs on catching the action before it was unveiled to everyone else.
The action kicks off right away in the One Piece trailer as we see the execution of the pirate king who, moments before he’s wiped from existence, reveals that the titular treasure is somewhere out there for only the most skilled explorers to find. Introducing fans to the Straw Hat Crew, the colorful first look of the streamer’s latest series shows off the acting team cast to bring the manga to life. Included in the lineup is Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp.
Storms rock the boat, but nothing will stop the group of intrepid trekkers from finding the One Piece. And, those high waters aren’t the only thing standing in their way as enemies in pirate form and otherwise are also on the hunt for the treasure and ready to spill the blood of anyone who gets in their way. Staying true to the manga created by Eiichiro Oda, while mixing in some new flair, the series will ultimately unveil the most worthy character as the next Pirate King.
Along with the members of the Straw Hat Pirates, the series will also see performances from Aidan Scott, Vincent Regan, McKinley Belcher III, Morgan Davies, Chioma Umeala, Steven Ward, Celeste Loots, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Craig Fairbrass, Alexander Maniatis, and Ilia Isorelys Paulino. One Piece was penned by Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Luke Cage) and Steven Maeda (The X-Files, Lost) with the pair also serving as showrunners and executive producers. Filling out the executive production team are Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements.
Netflix‘s One Piece series will start out with the first arc of the manga, but with decades of stories to pull from, it’s not likely going to cover the entire breadth of Luffy’s journey.
With San Diego Comic-Con well underway, the trailer for Netflix’s One Piece hasn’t been the only big reveal to come from the halls and rooms of the convention center. Star Wars fans have heard a lot of news surrounding the highly-anticipated Rosario Dawson-led series Ahsoka along with an exciting list of collectibles on the way from LEGO. Meanwhile, both Marvel and DC stans have gotten up close and personal with costumes belonging to their favorite heroes, including Adam Warlock, Aquaman, and Loki.
Fans of the manga and anime are understandably hesitant over the Netflix live-action adaptation following the streamer mishandling Death Note and Cowboy Bebop. So far, it seems like Netflix has corrected all of its old problems with its latest anime adaptation. Still, for manga fans, the arrival of the One Piece trailer is sure to be the most talked about content to come from the convention.
