Ben Affleck Coming To The Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Just days ago, it was revealed that Jennifer Garner will be reprising her role as Elektra in Deadpool 3. This came as a shock to many since we saw her in this role 20 years ago in 20th Century Fox’s Daredevil, where she starred alongside former husband Ben Affleck as the main superhero. This leads us to wonder, will Ben Affleck reprise his role as Daredevil in Deadpool 3?
With Hugh Jackman also reprising his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, it’s not out of the question that we could also see Ben Affleck make his return as Daredevil. Since the new Deadpool movie is being produced by Disney (which acquired 20th Century Fox), it leaves the door open for other X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Daredevil characters to make an appearance.
It’s becoming quite common for films to play with the concept of multiverses, like when Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire both appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, or when Fox’s Evan Peters appeared in Marvel Studio’s WandaVision.
Most recently, The Flash brought Michael Keaton’s Batman from 1992’s Warner Bros film into the 2023 DC film where he collaborated with Ben Affleck’s Batman.
This opens a whole new world for production companies to explore, and it gives them so many new opportunities for characters to come together. As Michael Keaton says in The Flash, “You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts.”
For Deadpool 3, it’s unclear how big of a role Jennifer Garner will play as Elektra, but we hope that Ben Affleck will at least make an appearance as Daredevil. While Elektra and Daredevil have always played each other’s love interests, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck really did fall in love on the set of 2003’s Daredevil. The couple were married for 10 years before calling it quits in 2015.
If the two appear on screen together, there could be some awkwardness or lack of chemistry. And knowing Ryan Reynolds, he would probably break the fourth wall and make the awkward tension even more relevant.
Ben Affleck sits in a unique position in Hollywood, because he has played both Daredevil, a Marvel superhero, and Batman, a DC superhero. However, the actor only played Daredevil in one movie, and he has played Batman in four movies (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League, and The Flash), with his fifth (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom) on the way.
His devotion to the DC Universe makes it seem less likely that we will see him in the Marvel Universe, but anything is possible these days.
If the creative minds behind Deadpool 3 want to include Daredevil in their film but are not able to work with Ben Affleck, then they could potentially cast Charlie Cox instead. Charlie Cox has been playing the blind attorney turned superhero since 2015, and he is reprising his role in the upcoming Disney+ TV series Daredevil: Born Again.
While Charlie Cox is great, most fans (apart from Jennifer Lopez) would probably rather see Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner reunite on screen. We’ll find out when Deadpool 3 comes to theaters on May 3, 2024.
