Pepsi Flavored Ketchup Is A Real, Disgusting Sounding Condiment You Can Now Buy
Pepsi is giving a very limited release of Pepsi cola flavored ketchup at select events.
Do you love Pepsi? Do you douse your burgers, french fries, and hot dogs in Pepsi, savoring the flavor while being disappointed that soda quickly makes your food soggy? Well, the time of your salvation is at hand, as Pepsi-flavored ketchup is on the way.
Unfortunately for everyone who’s obsessed with America’s second-favorite cola beverage (well, third if you count Coca-Cola and Diet Coke separately) Pepsi ketchup isn’t something you’ll be able to buy at your local grocery store. Instead, the questionably-flavored condiment will be available at just four major league ballparks across the United States, only on July 4, 2023.
The ballparks that have the “privilege” of providing Pepsi-laden hotdogs to the masses are the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Chase Field, The Minnesota Twins’ Target Field, The Detroit Tigers’ Comerica Park, and The New York Yankees’ Yankee Stadium.
Pepsi’s very limited release of the promotional product hints that Pepsico seems to realize that its culinary invention does not sound particularly appetizing. This is made even more clear when you realize that Pepsi ketchup will only be available in one single section of each stadium. According to a press release by PepsiCo, there will be sampling carts at the following locations:
- Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ; Section 130/131
- Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY; Pepsi Lounge (Pepsi Lounge Ticket Required)
- Target Field, Minneapolis, MN; Section 113
- Comerica Park, Detroit, MI; Section 139
Interestingly enough, it appears that Yankee’s fans will have to pay an extra premium to get their hands on a hot dog topped with Pepsi ketchup. The sampling cart is located in Yankee Stadium’s Pepsi Lounge, an event space that is only accessible by Yankees Club members or special ticket holders during game days. The 3,600 sq. ft indoor area lets guests enjoy food and drink while watching the game through its massive windows.
For those curious enough to try the Pepsi Ketchup who won’t be attending ball games in the four locations, it looks like there’s no way you can get a taste of the condiment. Instead, Pepsi is offering a $2.59 rebate on Pepsi products bought alongside a hot dog from now through July 4th. This offer applies to all retail and online stores, provided that you can show a receipt that clearly shows Pepsi and a hot dog purchased at the same time.
The creation of Pepsi ketchup comes from a partnership between PepsiCo and the business arm of the Culinary Institute of America, a multi-campus school that has helped create other Pepsi-flavored food items in the past. In 2022, they created the Pepsi-Roni Pizza, which was given out in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Miami, and Chicago. The year before, the school helped Pepsi and Peeps team up to create a marshmallow-flavored soda just in time for Easter, called PEPSI x PEEPS.”
Since these questionable creations succeed at getting people talking, there’s very little doubt that Pepsi will create even more bizarre Pepsi-flavored food products, and then never give them a wide release. After all, when it comes to promotions, it doesn’t matter how good the promotion itself is — it only matters that it gets people’s attention. Pepsi has succeeded at that, to say the least.
