The Best Fantasy Adventure Movies on Netflix
Whoever said that films based on reality are the way to go probably doesn’t enjoy a good dose of fantasy. Thankfully, we do. There is something to be said about a good fantasy adventure movie, one that can transport you to far-off places, ones filled with swords and sorcerers, daring duels, princes and princesses, and an occasional magic spell or two.
If you are a fan of such fantasy movies, then Netflix is a great choice to find a few good ones. In fact, we have found 8 solid fantasy adventure films that you are sure to enjoy. Here they are.
The School for Good and Evil (2022)
Sophie and Agatha are best friends living in the village of Gavaldon. Together, they learn of the legendary School of Good and Evil, created to prepare Fairy Tale heroes and villains. Sophie dreams of someday becoming a princess, deciding to escape her normal life and run away.
Agatha becomes aware of this and tries to stop her. The two are suddenly picked up by a stymph and taken to the school, where Sophie is dropped off on the evil side while Agatha is dropped off on the good side. Has there been a mistake made? Sophia Anne Caruso stars as Sophie and Sofia Wylie is Agatha. Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh, Kerry Washington, and Charlize Theron also star.

I, Frankenstein (2014)
I, Frankenstein begins like most Frankenstein stories with the creation of the monster by Victor Frankenstein. While that is the familiar part, the story takes a turn when the Frankenstein monster, named Adam, is attacked by demons.
During the attack, Adam is saved by two gargoyles who take him to the gargoyle queen, Leonore. She tries to convince Adam to join them in their fight against the evil gargoyles, but Adam declines. For two hundred years Adam lives away from society.
When Adam finally decides to rejoin society, he realizes that his battles are just beginning. Aaron Eckert stars as Adam and he is joined by Bill Nighy, Miranda Otto, and Jai Courtney.

Conan the Destroyer (1984)
If you like your fantasy adventure films with some sword and sorcery mixed in, then 1984s Conan the Destroyer will be your choice. Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the big-biceped Conan, ready to wield his sword against any and all comers.
Conan the Destroyer is the sequel to Arnie’s 1982 hit film, Conan the Barbarian. This time, Conan puts together a ragtag team group of fighters to quest for a magical gem. Grace Jones, Mako, Wilt Chamberlain, and Olivia d’Abo co-star.

Underworld (2003)
A fantasy movie featuring vampires and werewolves? Sign us up. Kate Beckinsale said the same thing when she jumped on board as Selene, a Death Dealer who happens to be a vampire who hunts down Lycans.
For generations, vampires and Lycans have been at war and nothing has changed. That is until Selene finds herself attracted to a human and he finds himself bitten by a Lycan. Decisions, decisions. Scott Speedman, Michael Sheen, and Bill Nighy co-star.

Bright (2017)
Bright is a fantasy adventure movie starring Will Smith that is set in an alternate present. In this world, humans and mythical creatures exist side-by-side. Smith plays Daryl Ward, a Los Angeles Police officer who is paired with Nick Jacoby (Joel Edgerton), the department’s first orc police officer.
Together the pair face racism and corruption while trying to protect an elf girl and the magic wand she has in her possession. Noomi Rapace, Edgar Ramirez, and Ike Barinholtz join in on the fun.

Troll (2022)
Hailing from Norway, Troll is a fantastical yarn brought to the screen by director Roar Uthaug from a script written by Espen Aukan. The story follows a group of people who must find a way to stop an ancient, large troll that has awakened in the Norwegian mountains. Since she was a child, Nora (Ine Marie Wilmann) has always believed in the existence of trolls.
When a drilling operation in the mountains results in an eruption, causing the deaths of numerous workers, she doesn’t believe the eruption was from methane, especially because of the large footprints found in the area. Trolls do exist and one angry one will make believers out of everyone in the region.

Seventh Son (2014)
Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore star in Seventh Son, a fantastical film filled with witches, creatures, and saviors Bridges is Gregory, the defender of mankind from evil, supernatural threats. Moore is the powerful witch Malkin, who was once imprisoned by Gregory, but who has escaped and is ready to gain her full powers.
Ben Barnes is Tom Ward, the seventh son of a seventh son, who is now Gregory’s apprentice and must help Gregory again battle the witch Malkin. Alicia Vikander and Kit Harrington co-star.

A Monster Calls (2016)
A Monster Calls is a fantasy film centered around life, death, and the guilt one child feels for wanting his terminally ill mother’s suffering to end. Conor O’Malley (Lewis MacDougall) is fighting with his mother’s terminal cancer.
The bond he has with his mother is unquestioned, so seeing her in this state is devastating to Conor. One night, at exactly seven minutes after midnight, Conor looks out his window to see a large yew tree turn into a gnarled Monster.
Upon approaching Conor, the Monster explains that he will tell Conor three stories, and for the fourth story, Conor will return the favor. Will these stories eventually cure Conor’s mother? Felicity Jones, Sigourney Weaver, and Liam Neeson also star in the film.
