“Alright. Alright. Alright.” Christopher Nolan’s follow-up to The Dark Knight Trilogy will see the British director return to the science fiction genre. As Warner Bros recently announced the release date of Nolan’s Interstellar, casting news and rumors are plentiful. The latest development suggests that actor Matthew McConaughey may join the new science fiction film.

According to Deadline, McConaughey was offered the lead role in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. There is not much known about the film, but it was reported that McConaughey’s character would be named Cooper, which really doesn’t tell us much at all. At the moment, the only thing we do know about Interstellar is the one sentence offered up to describe the sci-fi film, which will “depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding.”

Starring in a Christopher Nolan movie could be the best thing for the 43-year-old Texas native. There was a brief moment in McConaughey’s career where he was considered a viable leading man, but a string of failed movies including Sahara and Reign of Fire didn’t do much for his career in the long run. But as Deadline notes, “There’s no deal yet, but who says no to Nolan?”

Matthew McConaughey’s career saw some high points in 2012. He teamed up with longtime collaborator Richard Linklater for the director’s 2012 film Bernie, with Jack Black. McConaughey followed that up by appearing in the Steven Soderbergh film Magic Mike with Channing Tatum, and wrapped up the year with a fantastic performance in William Friedkin’s film Killer Joe. Matthew McConaughey soon appear in the film Mud from director Jeff Nichols, which will open later in April.

Interstellar will arrive in theaters on November 7, 2014, in IMAX.
