Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 2 On Netflix Is His Best Movie In Years?
Extraction 2 now has the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience score of any Chris Hemsworth-led film, including Thor: Ragnarok.
Today’s the day that Chris Hemsworth fans have been patiently (and in some cases not so patiently) waiting for. After three long years of wondering what the highly skilled mercenary known as Tyler Rake has been up to since Extraction landed on Netflix, the wait is finally over as Extraction 2 is now available on the streaming platform. Audiences are loving what Sam Hargrave and the rest of the team came up with, as Rotten Tomatoes shares that the fans have deemed it better than 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.
The third movie in the god of thunder’s solo story, Ragnarok, was a box office hit, largely praised by its dedicated fan base and critics alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, the Chris Hemsworth-led feature sits with an 87 percent audience score only to be beaten out today by Extraction 2 which has already nabbed 90 percent. While the critic scores differ, favoring Thor’s third big adventure to Tyler Rake’s second, the at-home viewers have made their voices heard.
Although the end of Extraction left it open on whether audiences would see Tyler Rake back in action again, it soon became clear that Netflix had a hit franchise on its hands, pushing forward to give Extraction 2 a green light as soon as possible.
Jumping straight into his action roots, Chris Hemsworth was more than happy to give fans another chapter in the life of his quick-thinking killer, suiting up for the task at hand. With original director and stunt extraordinaire Sam Hargrave on board, it wasn’t very long until filming for the movie was underway.
In Extraction 2, Tyler Rake turns the safety off his gun and sees himself tasked with yet another high-stakes mission to save the lives of innocents. With promises of big action sequences and a much-talked-about prison scene, this might just be Chris Hemsworth’s most active role yet.
Filling out the sequel’s ensemble cast is Idris Elba, Golshifteh Farahani, Tinatin Dalakishvili, Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, Andro Jafaridze, George Lasha, Tornike Bziava, Levan Saginashvili, and Tornike Gogrichiani.
It’s been almost a full year since audiences spotted Chris Hemsworth in a feature-length role. His last dip into theaters was through last summer’s blockbuster hit Thor: Love and Thunder. Teaming up once again with the hilarious Taika Waititi, Hemsworth and some other familiar faces were back to take on Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher who had plans to eliminate all life.
While it was no Ragnarok, Love and Thunder was another fun, vibrant ride through the imagination of Waititi in which he showed his ability to take the Marvel character far beyond anyone’s wildest expectations.
Although no third movie for the Extraction franchise has been announced, there’s a good chance that with its terrific ratings, Netflix will make moves to give Tyler Rake the trilogy that he deserves. Beyond working as the tough-as-nails mercenary, Chris Hemsworth will also soon appear in the upcoming Mad Max franchise installment, Furiosa. He’ll also be heard as Optimus Prime in the upcoming animated series, Transformers One.
