Best Netflix Streaming Options If You Loved Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts

2022’s Uncharted is an action-adventure film starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg that is based on the video game franchise of the same name. In this film, street-smart bartender Nate (Tom Holland) teams up with treasure hunter Sully (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a treasure that was amassed by explorer Ferdinand Magellan and his crew that was lost 500 years ago by the house of Moncada. Nate is interested in tagging along with Sully because he wants in on finding the treasure and because his brother Sam, with whom he had fallen out of contact, once tried finding the map for this treasure when they were kids 15 years prior.

Throughout this film, we find Nate and Sully at odds with the clues presented to them in pursuit of locating the fortune, a ruthless descendant from the Moncada family who wants to protect the treasure at all costs, mercenaries, and each other. Though Uncharted is not a Transformers property, or related in any way, we’re presented with larger-than-life action sequences that involve cars being dropped out of planes, ancient crypts being flooded, brilliant scenery, and snappy dialogue that brings it all home in an epic quest through uncharted territory that potentially has a huge payoff.

As you already know, Transformers is famously based on the Hasbro toy line, and G.I. Joe is no different. G.I. Joe Retaliation boasts cliff diving, gunplay, swordplay, and entire cities being leveled as Duke (Channing Tatum) and Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson) race the clock with the rest of the “Joes” to neutralize a nuclear threat that can potentially blow up every country 14 times over (15 times over in the case of North Korea) at the push of a button. Meanwhile, it’s revealed that there may be an imposter in the White House in the form of Zartan impersonating the President of the United States.

G.I. Joe Retaliation gives you exactly what you’d expect in an action movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Channing Tatum. Not only do Duke and Roadblock showcase their expertise in firearms, but they don’t fail to deliver one-liners that would make Arnold Schwarzenegger himself blush.

We all have fond memories of playing Hasbro’s Battleship, or at the very least remember smacking the entire board of play across the table in frustration upon the realization that your older brother was cheating by looking at your board’s reflection in the window behind you. Much like Transformers, we are presented with battles of an epic scale, but between humans and aliens, as a seemingly impenetrable cluster of five ships of unknown origin shows up off the coast of Hawaii.

In 2012’s Battleship we see Lieutenant Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) overcome his slacker tendencies as the high-tech US military vessels are subdued by alien regents who are revealed to have a history of destroying worlds. Though the US military doesn’t boast Transformer technology, we learn that sometimes you have to kick it old-school, and smoke out extraterrestrials the old-fashioned way: with brute force, AC/DC, and retired veterans manning the turrets.

Bringing it back to actual Transformers properties, we absolutely have to tip you off to Transformers: War for Cybertron. This “trilogy” is split across three six-episode seasons, brings us back to the Transformers’ home planet of Cybertron, and presents to us an epic civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Though there is a lot of Geo-political strife to wade through, this animated series boasts incredible animation with stunning visuals on the action front while adding to the already rich lore of the Transformers franchise.

If you’re one to binge through your new favorite series, then we suggest you hit “play” on Chapter 1: Siege, and don’t get off your couch until you’ve reached the conclusion to Chapter 3: Kingdom. But don’t say we didn’t warn you. Make sure you’ve got plenty of snacks handy, and that you don’t miss work, because it’s safe to say that you’re going to get sucked into this one without realizing it.

Transformers Prime is another critically acclaimed computer-animated series that takes place within the franchise’s “Aligned” continuity and brings us to planet Earth, where the series is set. Breaking away from the established Transformers lore, Prime suggests that Earth and Cybertron are in fact twin planets that have more in common than one would think. In other words, Prime boasts quite brazenly that there is, in fact, “more than meets the eye.”

Though Prime has garnered some criticism for being a slow burn, it’s worth noting that the series’ three seasons cover a lot of ground that explains the Transformer’s mythology in a way that has universal appeal. Lending itself to darker imagery and complex storytelling, Prime has mass appeal in the sense that it keeps the spirit of Transformers alive for a young audience while also resonating with older fans of the franchise who have been following closely since its inception in 1984.
