Wendy’s Is Giving Away Its Best Menu Item
Wendy's is partnering with T-Pain for a special Frosty give-away promotion.
Thanks to a partnership with T-Pain, Wendy’s customers can now get a free small Frosty with a qualifying purchase. The Frosty has long been one of the fast food chain’s most enduring items, uniquely occupying a space somewhere between soft serve ice cream and a shake. The chain once even advertised it as the “soquid (solid/liquid) you eat with a fpoon (fork/spoon).”
The new promotion includes T-Pain’s new Wendy’s-themed song and video “Buy U a Frosty,” modeled after his 2007 hit “Buy U a Drank.” In a press release, according to ComicBook.com, the artist referred to the restaurant chain’s 2018 mixtape We Beefin’? as an inspiration for their collaboration, saying he knew then he wanted to have a partnership of some kind with the brand. The new song and video carry that idea forward and result in a sweet deal for Frosty fans.
The We Beefin? EP was released by Wendy’s under the moniker at Wendys in March of 2018 as a free promotional product. The collection features a woman rapper who takes on the persona of “Wendy,” the franchise’s mascot, famously named after founder Dave Thomas’ daughter. Tracks include “Rest in Grease” and “4 for $4” on a disc packaged with artwork inspired by Ready to Die, the first studio album by The Notorious B.I.G.
While the original and most enduring flavor of Wendy’s frozen treat is chocolate, it isn’t the only one available. The vanilla Frosty was added in 2006 after frequent customer requests, marking the first alteration in the dessert‘s flavor since its invention by Thomas in the 1960s. In November 2022, the fast food chain briefly replaced the vanilla Frosty with a peppermint flavor as a holiday season promotion.
But Wendy’s other recent Frosty innovation is back for a repeat performance in the T-Pain video and in stores. The strawberry Frosty, released in the summer of 2022, also replaced the vanilla Frosty and is now making a triumphant return as it features prominently in the music video and is back on the menu. The new flavor added real strawberry puree to the mix and was a hit in its initial rollout, prompting its reclaiming of its spot on the summer menu.
Wendy’s has had its ups and downs in advertising over the years, making it big in the ’80s with the “Where’s the Beef?” campaign that became a minor pop culture phenomenon while later briefly putting actors in goofy Wendy wigs in a much less successful campaign. But its signature elements have remained much the same, even after a cosmetic overhaul or two, including a reworked logo. Its square patties are so recognizable the chain has even recently adopted the slogan “Square’s the Beef.”
But the Frosty remains arguably the most iconic item on the Wendy’s menu. Hopefully, more fans will enjoy the new strawberry flavor as they pull up for their freebies over the next week. Yes, Wendy’s T-Pain-themed Frosty promotion ends on June 21, so you’d better get down to your local drive-thru while you can if you want to take advantage of the deal.
