In The Gray Man, Ryan Gosling is Six, an assassin in the CIA’s secret Sierra program. His skills are virtually unmatched, legendary in fact. While on a mission, Six discovers his target is an ex-Sierra assassin who has dirt on Six’s corrupt boss. Six is able to retrieve the information but finds himself on the run.

He is now being pursued by a sociopath named Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans). Ana de Armas also co-stars in this action-packed thriller directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, from a script co-written by Joe Russo, Christopher Markus, and Stephen McFeely.

Leon the Professional (1994)

The assassin movie, Leon the Professional, was released in 1994 and was one of writer/director Luc Besson’s (The Fifth Element, Taken) earliest efforts. The movie stars Jean Reno and Gary Oldman and also marks the feature film debut of Natalie Portman.

Leon (Reno) is a hitman who takes Mathilda (Portman) under his wing after her family is wiped out by corrupt DEA agents. Mathilda wants revenge and, in her haste to get it, she finds more trouble. It is up to Leon to save her and hopefully himself as he squares off against the corrupt DEA agents.

Ava (2020)

Jessica Chastain stars as Ava, a cold-blooded assassin who is beginning to develop a conscience. Unable to get past it, it causes her to get sloppy with a target, bringing unwanted attention to her. Ava has been estranged from her family for 8 years, so when she goes to visit her ailing mother in Boston, she is unaware that her botched last assignment has brought her trouble. This trouble follows her to Boston. Now Ava has to decide what is most important to her – her job as an assassin or her family. John Malkovich, Common, Geena Davis, and Colin Farrell co-star in a film directed by Tate Taylor.

Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)

Karen Gillan stars in Gunpowder Milkshake as Sam, a young assassin who works for The Firm. She is also the daughter of Scarlett, her assassin mother. Sam finds herself teaming up with her mother and her mother’s former colleagues in order to save a young girl who has been taken captive by rival assassins. Lena Headey is Scarlett with Carla Gugino, Michelle Yeoh, and Angela Bassett as her former colleagues.  Gunpowder Milkshake was directed by Navot Papushado from a script he co-wrote with Ehud Lavski.

Polar (2019)

In Polar, Mads Mikkelsen plays a retiring assassin who finds himself on the wrong side of a hit. In this assassin movie, Mikkelsen is Duncan Vizla, a man ready to retire from the hitman business. After being pressured into accepting one last job, Duncan realized the job is actually a contract on him, given by his employer who wants to cash in on Duncan’s pension.

Vanessa Hudgens, Katheryn Winnick, Johnny Knoxville, and Richard Dreyfuss also star. The movie was directed by Jonas Åkerlund and written by Jayson Rothwell, based on Victor Santos’ graphic novel, Polar: Came from the Cold.

Kate (2021)

In Cedric Nicolas-Troyan’s assassin movie, Kate, Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as the title character, an elite assassin. Woody Harrelson is Varrick, the man who assigns her the targets she needs to eliminate. Varrick gives Kate her latest assignment – the assassination of a high-ranking yakuza boss.

But during the mission, Kate finds out that she has been poisoned and has less than 24 hours to live. She uses this time to exact revenge on whoever set her up. Umair Aleem wrote this very effective whodunit action thriller.
