Amber Heard Is Returning To The Screen With A New Movie
Amber Heard stars in In the Fire, a supernatural thriller debuting at the Taormina Film Festival this month.
It was at this time last year that one of the biggest celebrity cases of the last decade – Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard – was coming to an end and now, it would seem as though both members of the lawsuit are moving forward with their careers. While we know that Heard will be stepping back into her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Deadline has revealed that the Pineapple Express star will next appear in a thriller titled In the Fire. Making its worldwide debut at the 69th Taormina Film Festival, Heard will accompany the film’s director Conor Allyn and her co-star Eduardo Noriego to unveil the feature to the globe on June 24.
Billed as a supernatural thriller, Amber Heard leads the cast in In the Fire as a psychiatrist very much ahead of her time. Set in 1899, the film will see Heard’s psychiatrist travel to Colombia where she sets out to handle what could become the biggest case of her career – a child teetering between psychosis and demonic possession. Whether it be a sinister entity or the boy’s own mental illness, the symptoms only get worse when treatment begins, setting a timer for how long the psychiatrist can keep the boy safe from himself and others.
While the festival will also see the Italian premiere of such films as the action-packed Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and the documentary Little Richard: I Am Everything, there’s another title on the list other than Amber Heard’s that may raise a few eyebrows. After opening the festivities at Cannes, Maïwenn’s period drama Jeanne du Barry will be celebrating its Italian premiere at Taormina. What’s interesting about this is that it marks the return of Amber Heard’s ex, Johnny Depp, as he leads the film.
The feature stars both Depp and Maïwenn as King Louis XV and Jeanne du Barry, respectively, whose lives clash when the working-class woman finds herself as an underdog favorite of the King’s court. It was certainly a much-talked-about moment when audiences learned that Depp would be returning to the screen following his ongoing court battle with Amber Heard, so the same can likely be said for the latter’s return in In the Fire. While he may be over Hollywood as it is and promises that he won’t be returning to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Depp’s appearance in Jeanne du Barry seems to signal that he’s ready to step back into the spotlight.
For Amber Heard, her return to the big screen in Conor Allyn’s supernatural thriller is a long time coming with the only other film on her docket set to be Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The brutal court battle between her and her ex left fans split down the middle with whom to believe, and those that were in Depp’s court were calling for Heard’s cancellation. Luckily for Heard and her supporters, filming had already wrapped on the Aquaman sequel with both her co-star Jason Momoa and the feature’s director James Wan standing by Heard’s side to keep her in the film.
