Elliot Page Reveals One Movie Where They Had Tons Of Sex With Their Co-Star
In his new book, Elliot Page says he was having sex with Olivia Thirlby during the production of Juno.
Actor Elliot Page revealed in his memoir Pageboy that he had a sexual relationship with his Juno co-star, Olivia Thirlby, while the pair were filming the movie. ComicBook.com reported the news, noting Page’s comment that the chemistry between him and Thirlby was instant, but Page was intimidated by his co-star. Though the pair are the same age, Page viewed Thirlby as older, more mature, and more confident in her own skin.
Juno was filmed in 2007 when Page was just 20 years old, long before the actor publicly transitioned his gender. At the time, Elliot Page was still known to the world as Ellen Page. The actor played the title character in Juno, a pregnant high school girl who faces the pressures of teenage motherhood.
Olivia Thirlby played Leah, Juno’s best friend. Thirlby came out as bi-sexual in 2011, and Page came out as gay in 2014 before announcing his gender transition and name change in 2020. But before the young actors had fully formed their identities in the public eye, they knew they were attracted to each other.
“I was taken aback the moment I saw Olivia Thirlby,” Page wrote. “We stood in her hotel room. Billie Holliday played. She was about to start making lunch, when she looked directly at me and said point-blank, ‘I’m really attracted to you.’ ‘Uh, I’m really attracted to you, too.’ At that we started sucking face.
“It was on… we started having sex all the time: her hotel room, in our trailers at work, once in a tiny, private room in a restaurant. What were we thinking? We thought we were subtle. Being intimate with Olivia helped my shame dissipate. I didn’t see a glint of it in her eyes and I wanted that — done feeling wretched about who I am.”
Though Elliot Page still presented himself as a woman during the making of Juno, the actor said that the role of a pregnant teenager allowed him a newfound sense of bodily autonomy in the workplace. Page said the role did not make him feel sexualized, giving him a sense of what was possible for the future.
The relationship between Elliot Page and Olivia Thirlby was just one of the Hollywood flings Page has had during his career. The memoir also detailed a similar relationship with actress Kate Mara. Page described that time in his life as one of exploration and emotional challenge.
Page wrote that he had a pattern of falling for people who were emotionally unavailable. In retrospect, the actor sees the patterns of his life and can articulate them. Getting to that point, however, has never been easy.
Elliot Page also wrote about an unnamed Hollywood star who threatened to rape him at a party in order to prove that he was not gay. Page recognized that, for all the talk of inclusion, diversity, and acceptance in Los Angeles, there is a dark side of Hollywood and the people who run it.
In spite of the uphill battle, Elliot Page has remained steadfast in presenting the authentic version of himself. The actor’s early career was defined by films like Juno, Inception, and the X-Men franchise. Now the actor is a pivotal character on Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, a show that acknowledged Page’s gender transition on screen by making it a part of his character.
Elliot Page will next lend his voice to ARK: The Animated Series, an adaptation of the popular video game ARK: Survival Evolved. The series follows characters who must fight to survive on an island filled with dinosaurs, mythical creatures, and people out to kill them. He will also voice a character in the Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin, a star-studded animated epic featuring the talents of Megan Fox, Gerard Butler, and Kate Winslet.
The story captured in Pageboy is a uniquely modern one. Elliot Page represents not only a changing Hollywood, but a changing world. A peek into the actor’s private life reveals that, while the road to becoming your truest self is a hard one, it is a path worth walking.
