The Office Is Getting A Female-Led Remake
Prime Video Australia is launching another The Office remake, but this one is female-led.
The hit TV show The Office is getting remade (again), and this time it’s going down under. Prime Video Australia is taking on The Office remake, according to Deadline. Neither Ricky Gervais nor Steve Carell will be in this new show because it’s going to be a female-led cast with Australian stand-up comedian Felicity Ward taking center stage.
The premise of The Office remake will bring the show into the modern world with its very realistic and plausible storylines. Felicity Ward will play the role of Hannah Howard, the regional manager of the packaging company Flinley Craddick. When her boss from the Head Office tells her that their branch is being shut down and her employees must work from home, she will try all she can to keep her ‘work family’ together.
Fans of The Office will need to wait patiently to see how Felicity Ward manages her role, as audiences know the shoes of Michael Scott and David Brent are going to be hard to fill. Ricky Gervais, who created the first iteration of The Office for the BBC in 2001, has said that he is excited to see the Australian version of the show and how it will navigate a modern-day premise.
After only two seasons on the BBC, Ricky Gervais closed the doors on his sitcom to pursue other opportunities. Luckily, The Office was picked up by the United States for a remake, where it became a huge success. The show ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, despite losing Steve Carell as the show’s main character in 2011.
Believe it or not, the Australian version of The Office will be the thirteenth remake of the hit TV show. Other countries that have recreated their own versions of The Office include France, Canada, Chile, Israel, and Poland. However, this new iteration from Australia will be the first female-led version of the show.
Felicity Ward is a native Australian who is known for her work on the TV series Spicks and Specks, her time on The Ronnie Johns Half Hour, and for smaller appearances in the TV shows Wakefield and The Inbetweeners. She will be joined by fellow Australian and New Zealand actors and comedians, including Edith Poor, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sebbens, and Josh Thomson, among several others.
The new version of The Office is set to begin filming in Sydney, Australia, this June, with BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand and Bunya Entertainment backing the production. It will be interesting to see how the new characters tie their Australian humor into the comedy franchise as they put their new spin on it, all while navigating the work-from-home life and new struggles in today’s world.
While Americans may want to watch The Office remake, they won’t be able to stream it when it gets released on Prime Video Australia in 2024. We blame Toby. Instead, Americans will just have to settle for re-watching all nine seasons of The Office while they’re available on Peacock and are regularly shown on Comedy Central.
