Keanu Reeves Reunites With His Band After More Than 20 Years
Keanu Reeves reunited with his band Dogstar for the first time in 20 years for a show, and the band is finally ready to record another album.
Rock n’ roll and actors go hand in hand with the likes of Johnny Depp, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Oscar Isaac, and Jared Leto all having plenty of experience when it comes to fronting a live band on stage. Fans may or may not know that John Wick actor and overall legend Keanu Reeves is also a man of many talents and recently strapped his bass back on to perform with his band Dogstar at the 2023 BottleRock Napa Valley festival. Deadline reports that it was the actor’s first live show in over 20 years and that he did not disappoint his adoring audience. Check out some of his performance below.
In even better news, what may seem like a one-off performance is turning into much more, with Keanu Reeves revealing that Dogstar plans to record a new album – something that the entire band is pumped on. During an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle (via Deadline), Reeves’ bandmate and co-founder of Dogstar Robert Mailhouse was an integral part of getting the crew back together and hyping up Reeves for his performance.
Robert Mailhouse first met Keanu Reeves at a supermarket back in 1991, creating Dogstar with the former as the percussionist and the latter as the bassist and backup vocalist. Shortly after that, Gregg Miller added his name to the mix as the lead guitarist and vocalist before departing just one year later to be replaced by Bret Domrose, who would serve as the lead guitarist and vocalist.
Happy to be back under the bright lights of a stadium setting, Keanu Reeves revealed that he was thrilled to be back on stage with his friends and that it was something that he deeply “missed.” The Matrix star added that things immediately fell into place and that it became a no-brainer decision to move forward with performances and even fall back into writing and recording an album.
When it comes to his time with Dogstar, fans of the star’s on-screen work shouldn’t panic as there’s plenty of Keanu Reeves to go around. Recently celebrating the arrival of John Wick: Chapter 4, we know that we’ll spot him as the stealthy assassin again in an appearance of the Ana de Armas-led John Wick-spinoff Ballerina. Beyond Ballerina, his next big screen appearance is up in the air, but with the franchise performing as well as ever, there’s a good chance that we’ll see him suit up for more gun-fu in the future.
There’s also the case of the on-again-off-again Constantine 2. First arriving in theaters in 2005, Keanu Reeves’ take on the supernatural DC superhero was an immediate favorite, with fans always hoping that a sequel would come along down the road. While Warner Bros. has been cagey about what the dedicated fandom can expect, there seems to be continuous chatter that it’s only a matter of time for Reeves to be back in the character’s iconic jacket.
As for right now, Keanu Reeves and the rest of Dogstar haven’t revealed when that album is anticipated to be released or when more live performances will take place but stay tuned for more information.
