Exclusive: Pedro Pascal And Paul Rudd Offered Roles In Anaconda Reboot
Pedro Pascal and Paul Rudd have been offered roles in Sony's upcoming Anaconda reboot.
Ant-Man and the Internet’s Daddy may soon be locking horns with a giant snake. We’ve learned from our trusted and proven sources that both Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania) have been offered roles in the upcoming reboot of 1997’s Anaconda. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news back in 2020 that a reboot was on the way from Sony, and back in March we exclusively reported that Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) would be directing the feature.
We’ve been covering the Anaconda reboot for the past few months, and it looks like Gormican is hoping to be reunited with more than one of the stars of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent for the movie. In April we learned Nicolas Cage had been offered a part in the Anaconda reboot. We’re still waiting for word on Cage’s answer.
If he signs on to Anaconda, Paul Rudd will potentially make his first screen collaboration with either Pedro Pascal, Nicolas Cage, or Tom Gormican. Rudd’s last big screen appearance was in this year’s Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania in his fifth turn as Scott Lang. Beside voicing the skateboarding Mondo Gecko in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, he’ll be returning for the so far untitled sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife which is scheduled to release in December.
Between Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, and Nicolas Cage — depending of course on who does and does not sign on — the Anaconda reboot is gearing up to be an all-star feature. That’s fitting, considering the original film was likewise chock full of stars, including many who were just at the start of their career.
The original Anaconda — directed by Luis Llosa (Sniper) — starred already established talents like Jon Voight (Midnight Cowboy) and Eric Stoltz (Pulp Fiction). The horror adventure film also featured Jennifer Lopez (The Mother), Ice Cube (Friday), and Owen Wilson (The Royal Tenenbaums); all of whom were still relatively young in their acting careers. Not to mention that while Danny Trejo (Machete) had already been acting in small roles for well over a decade by the time he filmed Anaconda, he wasn’t yet the known quantity he is today.
The movie that Pedro Pascal, et al. may soon be helping to reboot is about a massive 25-foot snake in the Amazon River that a documentary film crew has the bad luck to encounter. While hoping to make a documentary about an Amazonian tribe, the crew is fooled by a snake hunter (Voight) into helping him track the titular beast.
Once we know whether or not Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, and/or Nicolas Cage have agreed to join the Anaconda reboot, we’ll make sure you know.
