Summertime is here, and AMC Theaters is reviving a summer camp of its own. Comicbook.com reported that, for the first time since 2019, the movie chain will put on its AMC Summer Movie Camp program, which offers low-cost screenings of family favorites throughout the summer season.

The program will bring an old movie back to more than 400 AMC Theaters locations every week from May 27 to August 30, with $3 showings on Wednesdays and $5 screenings on Saturdays between 11 am and noon. The program aims to bring in families looking for accessible, indoor activities during the year’s hottest months.

The AMC Summer Movie Camp is designed to make the theater experience accessible to everyone by offering low ticket prices. The program took a hiatus during the 2020 summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and 2023 will mark an exciting return for the beloved campaign.

AMC Theaters released its 2023 Summer Movie Camp lineup, with titles like Shrek 2, Kung Fu Panda, The Land Before Time, and DC League of Super-Pets among the modern and classic favorites headed back to the big screen.

The AMC Theaters Summer Movie Camp is sponsored by the upcoming DreamWorks films Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, set for release on June 30, and Trolls Band Together, slated for this November.

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken follows Ruby, a normal girl who learns that she is actually royalty gifted with the power to turn into a giant Kraken. With that power comes a responsibility to protect the sea from its most vile assailants. Trolls Band Together is the third outing for the musical Trolls that will reunite Branch (Justin Timberlake) with his boy band brothers.

The box office continues to struggle to reach pre-pandemic numbers. Recent tentpole and franchise movies, such as several of the latest Marvel films, have financially failed to live up to their predecessors. The return of Summer Movie Camp could help supplement AMC Theaters through another potentially lackluster blockbuster season.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 did kick off the summer box office to a strong start. Movies like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, The Flash, Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will look to carve out their own piece of box office dominance. Much of the business they generate will be at AMC Theaters.

The impact of the pandemic and streaming created a perfect storm in 2020 that signaled the death of many movie theaters. AMC Theaters weathered the storm, though the company’s future has been far from secure. Amid the rapidly changing market, the theater continues to shift its strategy in order to stay relevant, and Summer Movie Camp is a welcome addition to its repertoire.

The Land Before Time is the oldest film on the 2023 roster. The animated dinosaur epic will kick off the season on May 27; tickets are on sale now. Advance tickets are available for the entire 2023 season, ending with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on August 30. Summer is here, and thanks to AMC Theaters, so are summer movies for people of all ages.
