Harrison Ford On Returning To Star Wars
This article is more than 2 years old
With Star Wars: Episode VII scheduled for release in 2015, we are only two years away from returning to a galaxy far, far away. A few weeks ago, George Lucas all but confirmed the return of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher to the Star Wars universe, and it seems like they are all excited to be back in the fold.
As reported on Chicago’s WGN, actor Harrison Ford opened up about returning to Star Wars. It sounds like the 70-year-old actor is happy to jump back into the Star Wars universe. Ford says,
“I think it’s almost true, I’m looking forward to it. It’s not in the bag yet, but I think it’s happening.”
That is a far cry from how he felt about returning to Star Wars after the release of The Empire Strikes Back in 1980. It’s no secret that Harrison Ford didn’t want to be in Return of the Jedi in 1983. He felt the best way for his character Han Solo to exit the film series was at the end of The Empire Strikes Back, which led to Ford’s performance as Han Solo suffering in Return of the Jedi.
Perhaps Han Solo will get the proper exit or the death scene Harrison Ford always wanted for the character in Star Wars: Episode VII. If screenwriter Michael Arndt and J.J. Abrams were smart, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher would only have extended cameos in the new Star Wars movie. Their appearance in the movie should serve as a bridge between the original trilogy and the new sequel trilogy, instead of being the focal point.
A few years ago, Harrison Ford attended an anniversary screening of The Empire Strikes Back in Hollywood. He said it had been 30 years since he last saw the picture, and he then felt he should start to embrace the Star Wars movie series again. Let’s just hope we don’t have another Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on our hands.
