Jack Black Created An Amazing Tribute To Video Games
Jack Black's band Tenacious D has released a song about the actor/musician being an avid gamer.
Jack Black, the voice of Bowser in the recently released Super Mario Bros Movie, just dropped a fantastic tribute video to video games. In fact, the next Claptrap from the Borderlands is actually an avid gamer himself, and he wants the audiences to know it—the song is performed by Black’s band Tenacious D, and it’s all about Black being a gamer.
To be entirely honest, in the opening seconds of this fantastic 95-second video, Jack Black actually sings about how he doesn’t play video games anymore while he and Kyle Gass, Black’s bandmate, go through different video game settings. Apparently, Black made some exceptions to the original statement about not playing by saying that he occasionally plays some God of War, Fallout 4, and Red Dead Redemption 2. And for those who aren’t familiar with Black’s work with Tenacious D, it’s a typical foul-mouthed song with a few NSFW moments in the animated video.
For those who are familiar with Black’s work, public, and personal life, the song is everything you’d expect from Tenacious D. It’s filled with humor and several layers of profanity that probably already ruined someone’s childhood. The perfect example of this is Jack Black’s interpretation of the 1-up mushroom from Super Mario, which has a terrifying origin on its own anyway.
But, all in all, it’s nice seeing Jack Black sing about one of his passions, albeit in an animated form—and to be honest, the levels of profanity displayed in this video would be instantly banned if they were live-action.
While Jack Black had a blast singing about how he doesn’t play video games unless when he does, Kyle Gass’s animated character didn’t fare so well. He was squashed by a troll from God of War, torn apart by a freakish Deathclaw from Fallout 4, collided with a flying creature while cosplaying as Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog, and got shot in a funny place in Red Dead Redemption 2.
His troubles didn’t end there since he was also crushed by Super Jack Black while acting as a Koopa from Super Mario, after which his remains were probably eaten by Jack Black’s horse.
While Kyle goes through his troubles of being maimed and mutilated, Jack Black sings how he actually likes video games before finally acknowledging it towards the videos and, while also appearing as several characters from prominent gaming titles, including Kratos from God of War, Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Ryu from Street Fighter, and the naked cowboy guy from Red Dead Redemption 2. What’s great about the whole thing is just how happy Jack Black looks while singing about video games, despite being a middle-aged man. Gaming is no longer reserved for the youth; those who grew up around the turn of the century grew up playing video games, and the community of retro gamers is actually still very active and growing, especially since the PlayStation 2 era is now considered retro—and the sound of it just makes you feel old, doesn’t it?
