Michael J. Fox Doesn’t Care About Back To The Future Reboot
Michael J. Fox is at peace with the thought of a Back to the Future reboot.
There have been talks of a Back to the Future reboot for years, but Michael J Fox, who starred as Marty McFly in the original trilogy, could care less if it gets made. He recently told Variety that he doesn’t think there needs to be a reboot, but if it does happen that he would be at peace with it. While there is no confirmed movie reboot, there is going to be a Broadway musical of the classic film coming to New York City this summer.
The original three Back to the Future movies came out in quick succession from 1985 to 1990, with each film following the adventurous, time-traveling shenanigans between Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) and his best friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). The first Back to the Future is hailed as a popular fan favorite, appearing on many greatest movie lists and touting a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
It’s no wonder the Back to the Future series was so well done because the films were written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, with Zemeckis directing. Robert Zemeckis is known for his great work on Forrest Gump, Romancing the Stone, and Castaway, while Bob Gale broke into mainstream Hollywood with his work on the trilogy. In addition, Steven Spielberg served as executive producer on all three films, which guaranteed they would be great.
When it comes to Christopher Lloyd’s opinion on the future of the trilogy, he has said that, unlike Michael J Fox, he would be interested in reprising his role as Doc Brown in a Back to the Future sequel. But the 84-year-old actor shared that he didn’t think that the three creative minds behind the trilogy would be interested in creating a sequel. He feels that there wouldn’t be anything to add to the storyline because there is nothing to clarify, and there isn’t a better way to tell the story.
If another sequel is ever made, it will definitely not include Crispin Glover, who played George McFly, Marty’s dad. The actor has gone on record saying that he did not enjoy his experience working in the corporate movie world and instead prefers to work on stranger films like Willard and What Is It? This explains Crispin Glover’s noticeable absence from Back to the Future Part II and III.
If there is a sequel, Michael J Fox has also said that he will not have a hand in it. The 61-year-old actor has been struggling with Parkinson’s disease ever since he was 29 years old and has recently shared that his condition is getting worse. He also decided to take a step away from his acting career after a scene in Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie struck a nerve with him.
However, Michael J Fox did release a new documentary called STILL that chronicles his incredible career and his ongoing struggle with Parkinson’s disease. The film recently held a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, a nearly impossible feat for most movies.
