See Jon Bernthal Prep With Another Punisher At The Firing Range
Jon Bernthal and Thomas Jane appear in a new video on Instagram refining their shooting skills on the firing range.
Jon Bernthal is gearing up for his return as The Punisher by refining his shooting skills. In a video posted to Instagram, the Marvel actor is seen practicing his aim with different firearms. He is joined by Thomas Jane, who portrayed Frank Castle in the 2004 film The Punisher. The caption hints at the pair appearing in Marvel Cinematic Universe together, saying, “Enter the Punisher Multiverse.”
The Punisher will appear in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. The series is adapted for television by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, with Michael Cuesta and Jeffrey Nachmanoff set to direct. Charlie Cox returns as Matt Murdock/Daredevil from Marvel’s Netflix series, alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
Sandrine Holt will appear as Vanessa Fisk: Wilson’s wife, while Nikki M. James, Michael Gaston, Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, and Arty Froushan have been cast in undisclosed roles. Filming began in New York in March and is expected to wrap in mid-November. Daredevil: Born Again is set to debut in 2024 and will consist of 18 episodes.
Jon Bernthal first played The Punisher in the second season of the Netflix series Daredevil in 2016. He appeared in several episodes where he served as the antagonist to the titular superhero, Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Fans and critics praised the actor’s portrayal of the vigilante, and Marvel announced a standalone series featuring the antihero.
The Punisher series premiered on Netflix in 2017, with Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle. The show explored the character’s back story, chronicling his transformation from a decorated Marine Corps veteran to a vigilante seeking vengeance for the murder of his family. The series was applauded for its action sequences and emotional depth.
In 2019, the Netflix series was canceled after its second season due to the expiration of Marvel’s deal with the streaming service. Fortunately, Jon Bernthal gets to reprise the role once again. According to Men’s Health, the actor takes the physical aspect of the part very seriously.
He told the publication that he suffered a severe injury while filming the second season of The Punisher.
“I broke my hand on the first day of filming the first fight scene of the year,” Jon Bernthal explained. But the actor continued working, tearing two ligaments on day two and dislocating his arm on day three. The injuries resulted in emergency surgery.
Jon Bernthal first earned fame as Shane in the first two seasons of The Walking Dead. He also starred in The Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark and a gritty crime drama called We Own This City. But fans are most excited about his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
