Justin Timberlake Making A Sequel To His Best Movie?
Justin Timberlake is starring in Trolls Band Together.
For those of you who have been wondering what Justin Timberlake has been up to lately, it’s safe to say that he’s been hard at work. And if you’re wondering whether he’s busy with singing, or voice acting these days, you’ll be pleased to know that he’s doing a bit of both! According to The Hollywood Reporter, we will be seeing a third installment of the Trolls franchise, with Trolls Band Together, this holiday season.
And if you’re wondering what Justin Timberlake’s Branch has been up to, you’ll be pleased to know that he’s finally in a relationship with Queen Poppy (Anna Kendrick) after two films worth of relentless flirting. But in a self-referential turn of events, we learn that Branch has a secret boy band past with his four brothers: Floyd, John Dory, Spruce, and Clay. And the name of the band, you ask? BroZone.
BroZone is the boy band sensation of Branch’s past, and one could draw parallels to Justin Timberlake’s own past career with NSYNC, who had a legendary run from 1995 to 2002. But unlike Timberlake’s continued friendship with his former bandmates, we learn that Branch hasn’t had much contact with his BroZone brethren since the band broke up when he was just a kid.
But that’s all going to change when Branch’s brother, Floyd, is kidnapped by Velvet and Veneer, a dangerous and villainous pop-star duo who want to use him for his musical talents. So it’s safe to say that we’ll see Justin Timberlake leaning into Branch’s cynical survivalist nature in his quest to rescue his brother from his captors. We wonder if all of the above will put a strain on Branch and Poppy’s relationship or if it will only make it stronger.
We’ve got to say that Justin Timberlake’s Trolls Band Together boasts an all-star cast. The BroZone band itself will feature the likes of Eric André (John Dory), Kid Cudi (Clay), Troye Sivan (Floyd), and Daveed Diggs (Spruce). Not only will John Dory and Branch join forces to rescue Floyd from Velvet (Amy Schumer) and Veneer (Andrew Rannells), but it will be made apparent that there is a desire on John Dory’s part to find their other brothers, and get the band back together.
But what’s going to set Trolls Band Together apart from its predecessors is some stylistic changes on the animation front. Though the Justin Timberlake film will still be predominantly CGI, there will be some 2D animation sequences inspired by films like Disney’s Fantasia, and The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine. So, in addition to the smooth graphics we’re used to, we’ll certainly see a classic callback with some of these sequences.
If the film score sounds familiar, it’s because Theodore Shapiro, who scored Trolls World Tour, has returned to the franchise on the musical front.
So there’s a lot going on with the new Justin Timberlake film. Not only do we have the ultimate odd-couple in the form of Branch and Poppy, but we will also have boy band references up the wazoo, as well as a kidnapping plot. Trolls Band Together will be produced by DreamWorks Animation and is slated for a November 17, 2023 release.
