Lena Headey Is Very Glad Game Of Thrones Is Over
Lena Heady is ready to move on from Game of Thrones and become involved with new projects.
Whether you loved the final season of Game of Thrones or united with the mostly-universal feeling that it could’ve been better, it’s certain to be a show missed by its most dedicated fandom. While House of the Dragon may have brought some of the magic back, with even more spin-offs and prequels on the way, there’s one star that’s glad the original show came to an end when it did. During an interview with Newsweek, Lena Headey, who played the sinister Cersei Lannister, said that she was beyond thrilled that excitement and hype for the show have finally died down as she says the entire experience was “weird.”
In what she refers to as “amazing and unexpected,” Lena Headey has nothing but gratefulness for how the show helped launch her career and make her a famous face in the public eye. But, all that recognition came with a price, something that the actress is happy to see on its way out. Like many of the show’s other stars, including fellow star Emilia Clarke, Headey was ready to move on to other projects, something she’s finally free to do now that her reign of Cersei has been wrapped for four years.
Although it’s unlikely for Game of Thrones fans to forget who Lena Heady’s character was, Cersei Lannister was one of the show’s main antagonists throughout its eight-season run. From the comfy quarters of Kings Landing, Cersei remained in or beside power for most of the story, struggling and hoping to hold onto control for as long as possible. With a tumultuous bond with her family members that included a bizarre incestuous link to her twin brother, Cersei was one of those characters that never had a turnaround in her story arc, remaining evil through and through until the final moments.
Unlike her co-stars such as Kit Harrington, who will be moving forward with his Jon Snow spin-off series, Lena Headey will never get to experience the next chapter in the tale of Cersei Lannister as (spoiler alert) she met her demise at the tail end of the show’s final season. However, with so many prequels currently in the works, it wouldn’t be too surprising for a backstory on the Lannisters to pop up somewhere down the line. But, taking into account her recent interview with Newsweek, it’s our guess that Headey has closed the chapter on the wicked Queen forever.
While her voice has been heard in animated projects like Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation and DC League of Super-Pets, the 300 star will finally be making her way back into the live-action world in HBO’s upcoming political drama, White House Plumbers. The miniseries will star Lena Headey alongside an impressive call sheet that includes Woody Harrelson, Justin Theroux, Domhnall Gleeson, Kiernan Shipka, Ike Barinholtz, and F. Murray Abraham.
In it, Lena Headey stars as Dorothy Hunt, the wife of Harrelson’s E. Howard Hunt, one of the men behind the notorious Watergate scandal that put a pox on President Richard Nixon’s time in office. With only one other project in the works, a film titled Svalta, this will be the best way for audiences to get their Lena Headey fix after missing her from live-action TV since the battle for the Iron Throne came to a close in 2019.
