Twitch And OnlyFans Users Are Being Tracked By The Secret Service
The Secret Service is tracking Twitch and OnlyFans.
It may feel like the US government is always watching, but now it has been confirmed that the Secret Service is watching users on Twitch, OnlyFans, Facebook, and even Pinterest. Recent news from Dextero has found that the US Secret Service is tracking and monitoring users on these major sites in an effort to protect society. Surely the government is only monitoring activity to ensure the safety of our country, but it does seem like a breach in privacy, especially for the content creators on these websites.
We know that the government has been closely monitoring social media channels like Facebook and Twitter since the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol building. By monitoring these sites, the government can better plan for any similar events that are on the rise while also removing inappropriate “fake news” and dispelling all of the misinformation that’s out there. This includes anything false or misleading, like content about microchips in COVID-19 vaccines and deepfakes of former President Donald Trump getting arrested.
As the Secret Service continues to monitor Twitch and OnlyFans, it will be interesting to see what kind of content they flag or remove. Currently, both sites focus on offering fun, social content to a subscriber’s audience.
Twitch, the Amazon-owned video live-streaming service, launched back in 2011 to provide a space for video gamers, esports enthusiasts, musicians, and other creative users to share their content with each other. The platform is now mainly used for gamers to live stream their content to others while playing video games. Some of Twitch’s more popular users are Ninja, Auronplay, Rubius, and Ludwig ‘Ludwig’ Aghren, who all have millions of followers, allowing them to earn $2.50 a month for each subscriber they have.
OnlyFans launched back in 2016 and has quickly become a top subscription service for content creators to share explicit content with their subscribers. In addition, OnlyFans does have content creators who market and sell non-explicit videos, including musicians and fitness trainers. Some of the top earners on OnlyFans include the famous actress Bella Thorne ($11 million), American rapper Cardi B ($9.43 million), fellow American rapper Tyga ($7.69 million), and media personality Mia Khalifa ($6.42 million).
While the Secret Service monitoring our content is nothing new, it can be unsettling. Both Twitch and OnlyFans have been blocked by China, a country whose government is well-known for intensely monitoring the content that is available to its citizens. If the US government continues monitoring and tracking content, we could see bans popping up all over for other sites like these.
Before long, we may see the social media app TikTok banned across the United States. While it hasn’t been banned at a federal level, Montana is trying to move to ban the app after a bill was submitted to their government just a few days ago.
